Accidents at Work

Accidents that occur in the workplace are sadly a common occurrence. They make up a large

majority of the personal injury claims for compensation and can leave devastating results on

your life.

Accidents at work aren’t limited by your employment; a work related personal injury can

happen across all aspects of the employment sector. Whether you work in an office, a high

street store, a

construction site

and factory or if you are managing director of your own company, everyone has the same risk.

The personal injury caused by an accident at work can vary depending on the severity of the

accident. This personal injury can be minor such as a strain injury or more major such as

broken bones/fractures or head and spinal injury.

Your employer has a duty of care towards you as an employee. Accidents at work should be

avoidable by following strict health and safety measures. If you feel you are completing a task

without the proper training and equipment you should inform your employer right away.

Accidents at work can be down to employees not being provided with protective

clothing/equipment, not having the right or sufficient training for their job as well as working in a

hazardous environment where health and

safety regulations

are not being properly followed.

If you are working in an office you could be facing repetitive strain injury from inappropriate

desk space or insufficient breaks. In a warehouse you could trip over packaging that hasn’t

been cleared away. However construction sites and factories still remain the biggest threat

when it comes to personal injury work accidents, with statistics showing that you are six times

more likely to have a work accident on a construction site than in any other occupation.

If an accident does happen in the work place it has to be reported straight away to your

employer. The accident should also be noted down in what is known as the accident book, all

workplaces should have an accident book to keep a record of any accidents that occur in the

workplace. If you fail to report details of the accident and later decide to claim for compensation

your claim will be unfounded and dismissed.

If you have had a work accident in the last three years you could be entitled to compensation .
