ON BUTTERFLY WINGS

Barbara P. Umstead, President

“Standing as one…

to serve where need is found”

Get ready, get set… and we are off and running headlong into our new club year. Yes, I know. Our club

year actually begins in June but for all intents and purposes, September is the month when we really begin the

work of the club and the months between are used to regroup, plan and grab a little R&R… theoretically. This

summer however, has not been a quiet and relaxing time nor has it been work free. Work is the operative word

here. Many of us have spent countless hours in meetings planning for our future, cleaning out, cleaning up,

reorganizing, rearranging, and redecorating. Whew!! There is more yet to be done but WOW!! A great deal has

been accomplished. What a light and airy, but warm and inviting, look inside our clubhouse. Kudos to Pat Davis

for her almost seven days a week at the club in June and July and to Margot Murphy for lending her decorating

skills and a large amount of time to our elegant new look. Many members spent a great deal of time giving a

hand where needed. You are all so appreciated for your dedication and love of The WCR.

Do come and enjoy our new look as you join in all of the exciting activities planned for September. The

meetings are unique with a different format in some cases and we have a grand finale Bridge and Bunco event

at the end of the month. Find more information about meetings and events in other areas of the Tel-A-Woman.

Don’t miss out on the fun and fellowship available through your membership. I hope to see all of you many

times during this month and throughout the club year.

“Wishing you bluebird mornings and butterfly afternoons.”

GENERAL MEETING AND LUNCHEON

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

11:15 a.m. Social Hour – Noon Luncheon and Program

Program: “Sharing Our Passions – GFWC Women Make a Difference”

Speaker: Gail Rodgers McCormick

Director of GFWC Women’s History and Resource Center, Washington, DC

Special Guest: Beverly Lassiter

President of General Federation of Women’s Clubs of North Carolina

Cost: $11.00 per person

Reservations/Cancellations: Your Calling Committee Member (Please do not call the Club)

How fortunate we are to have a representative from the GFWC Headquarters and the GFWC North Carolina President

attend our meeting! Both ladies will tell us about their enthusiasm and love for GFWC.

WHRC Director Gail Rodgers McCormick’s passion is history. Her recent chance encounter with a single box in the

WHRC Research Library is a great example of the treasures she has found. She is constantly unearthing new material

helping us learn about our Federation’s past and the women who made a difference. Gail will share some of the stories of

our “fore sisters” with us.

GFWC-NC President Beverly Lassiter will speak to us of her passion for GFWC and how it has allowed her to make a

difference with her President’s Special Project, Girls on the Run.

Come and learn more about GFWC’s role in women’s history. Hear Gail reveal her recent discoveries and listen to

Beverly as she takes a look into GFWC’s future. This will be a great meeting to have potential members as guests.

Notice to Calling Committee Members for the September 9 Meeting

Please call those on your list by Wednesday, September 2 and report the names of those making reservations to Jan Vaughn

at jpvaughn@aol.com or 787-8301. She is the Reservations Chair for the meeting and needs to report the total reservations
