If you need a car to commute to and from work, or school or the medical care, well,

many charities and other organizations provide cars to ones in need at no cost or low

cost. In general, these charities have programs that provide quality used vehicle that has

been refurbished to ensure the safety and reliability. In addition, several states have

launched car donation programs as a way to improve mobility and self-sufficiency of

people who move from welfare to work, who are in rebuilding their lives due to natural

disasters etc.

Often, private charities actually run this programs and many people are approve for a

car, but charities that are funding by government have to comply to the criteria

established by the government. These programs coincide with cars that have been

donated to the charity of an income tax write-off, also the welfare of the beneficiaries.

The cars range from direct donations to the zero or low interest loans for the purchase of

a vehicle. In a typical program, the vehicles are registered and titled in the name of the

recipient, but charity reserves a lien on each vehicle at least once a year. Recipients must

be employed within 30 days of receiving the car and keep their jobs during the period of

detention. Recipients must maintain automobile insurance.

An example of such a program is Wheels for Working in North Carolina, as well as,

New York. This is a program of public-private partnership involving representatives of

the Forsyth County Department of Social Services, Goodwill Industries and a local car

dealership. Goodwill accepts donations of vehicles in good conditions from government

agencies and private citizens. Minimal repairs are made to ensure that each vehicle pass

inspection for the year. The car bearing the name is immediately transferred to the

wheels to work the receiver however, goodwill has a lien on the car for 12 months.

Beneficiaries pay a program fee of $ 50.00 per month. At the end of the period of 12

months if all requirements, the lien is removed and the receiver has the car free and

clear. In each state there are some guidelines for many different organizations, that can

be applied is determined by the organization or the state. Families may be eligible for

the car are some of the victims in need of natural disasters, doctors, families

transitioning from welfare to work, families living in temporary shelters leaving the

people who need them depending on your situation. 1-800-Charity Cars is working with

people with specific problems, including victims of domestic violence, the medical need

and victims of natural disasters. Unfortunately, these organizations are very selective and

we received many requests, so you have to be persistent.

Fill out the forms required by the vehicle donation sites and refer them to social workers

or any other person who can help you prove you deserve a free car. Submit to the agency

and be sure to contact the organization.

Check into the laws to be followed by accepting a car title. Call your vehicle in the title

of the county office and ask if the cars can be donated from one individual to another at

no cost and what is the process for it. Find out if the title has to be certified by the

person or organization that has donated the car to you. Follow all laws and guidelines

concerning the transfer of car ownership.

Accept the title of the car and bring it to the office of your title in your county or

division of motor vehicles. Transfer title to your name and license plates to buy the car.

Write the person or agency to give a receipt for the vehicle indicating that the car was

donated and what the perceived value of the car is. You will need this for tax deduction.
