Dear Pre-IB Family,
Congratulations! Your child has met the necessary criteria of Leon County Schools and as a member of the Pre-IB
program is now registered in a high school credit course. Students enrolled in Spanish I and II, French I and II,
Algebra, Geometry, 8 Grade Physical Science, and International Affairs (Multicultural Studies) receive high school
credit for participating in these courses. Courses in math also receive the “honors” designation and thus are included in
your child’s overall GPA on a five point scale.
With this in mind, your child is beginning to build on their high school transcript. Talent in not only academic
achievement, but also appropriate maturity will play a major role in your child’s success in this course. With this
participation also comes added responsibility:
Students will be required to take a midterm and final examination that will be reflected in the appropriate report
cards and will count as twenty percent of each semester’s GPA.
High school credit transcripts are used by colleges, universities, and the NCAA as part of their admission
criteria; therefore, the grades earned in these classes will be included in these transcripts.
High school credit math courses also serve as the student’s middle school math class. Students not passing
the course will not be promoted to the next grade even though the course is advanced in nature.
Students may repeat the same course the next year for GPA improvement if they receive a grade of D or
lower. In addition, once they have completed a semester in a high school credit course, the course may not be
dropped. Any grade of a D or lower must retake the course the next year in order for the replacement grade to
Beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, students receiving a C or lower in a high school credit course will
be automatically moved to a non-high school credit course number in late November prior to taking the
semester exam. Their schedule will not change; they will merely have a non-high school credit course number
for the class they are taking. If you wish for your student to remain in the high school credit class despite their
grade, you must provide a parental override letter in written form to Mrs. Davis prior to December 12 .
Once again, we are proud that you and your child have chosen this opportunity and wish them the best of luck in the
