Goals:
The chemistry resident rotation is a three month rotation comprised of three separate one month time periods. The goal of
these rotations is to provide a comprehensive overview of subjects relating to clinical laboratory pathology and practice. This
will provide a basis for residents to be successful on the CP section of the board exam, as well as develop into clinicians who
are able to evaluate, provide clinical consultation to others, promote laboratory improvement, and assist in the
implementation of new laboratory testing. The Clinical Chemistry rotation is designed to provide training and competency in
various aspects of the field, including understanding the pathophysiology of various disease states and the diagnostic utility
of tests used to evaluate these disease states. An additional focus is to provide the opportunity for residents to become
acquainted with the research process and scientific presentation of research. This rotation encompasses the chemistry,
immunology, toxicology, pediatric, and point of care laboratories at UAMS.
