TANZANIA REVENUE AUTHORITY
The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) was established by an Act of Parliament No.11 of
1995, and is charged with the responsibility of Assessing, Collecting and Accounting for
Government Revenue. TRA is currently implementing its Second Corporate Plan whose
vision is to be “A Modern Tax Administration”. In that regard, the Authority has expanded its
Infrastructure and Communication Section in the Information and Communication
Technology Department. This Section is responsible for ensuring all ICT infrastructure
systems are operated effectively and securely and are always available to support the
operations of the Authority and protected from intrusion of any kind. To strengthening this
section the Authority would like to fill the following vacant positions:
1 Vacancies - Telecommunication Engineers (TE)
2.1. Telecommunication Engineers
2.1.1 JOB PURPOSE
To install, support, monitor, test and troubleshoot LANs and WANs hardware’s and
software’s within a Telecommunications environment. To perform preventative maintenance
on Telecoms systems, day-to-day activities and maintaining or exceeding customer
satisfactions. Telecommunication Engineering is a highly technical role. TE Requires a very
good understanding of existing network Infrastructure, network equipments and networking
protocols, strong interpersonal skills are also important as the Telecommunication Engineer
must understand the networking needs of not just users but also the organizations as a
whole and be able to advice management on the best infrastructure solutions.
2.1.2 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. Responsible in design, installation and maintenance of infrastructure monitoring
tools for LAN/WAN management
ii. Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for
ensuring the security and integrity of IP network
iii. Organize, manage, and provide technical solutions within the organization and
supervise installation contractors
iv. Advice management on best practices for ICT technology
v. Must possess the ability to handle multiple projects with limited supervision and work
in a small team environment.
vi. Must possess good working knowledge of IP and routing protocols, BGP, OSPF,
2600, 7200 and 7500 routers, 6500 switches, IP address space management, etc.
vii. Actively participates as team member resolving technical support from
troubleshooting to resolution.
viii. Responsible in implementing and maintaining network and server documentation.
ix. Report daily, weekly and monthly reports to management
x. Comply with Corporate network standards , network security, Antivirus Policy,
change management, ISO, ITIL
xi. Strong communication skills, team player who routinely participates in knowledge
exchange with his/her technical peers, as well as positive attitude are essential.
xii. Other duties may be assigned.
A University graduate with at least B.Sc. in Information and Communications Technology,
Computer Science and Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering with at least three
years working experience in an IT environment preferably in Cisco networking, Network
Security and Enterprise E-mail, Intranet and Internet, VPN, PABX, etc
Working knowledge of PCs, UNIX, Windows operating system, and typical Windows
Cisco CCNA Certified IT Profession will be an added advantage
