Counselor Education Program’s Initiatives
Human Diversity Strategic Plan
1. The Counselor Education Program will continue to support recruitment programs
that raise the proportion of women students, students of color, and other underrepresented
students on campus. We will do this primarily through access to our updated and current
website.
2. The Counselor Education Program will continue our efforts to enhance and
expand outreach and recruitment with our search and screen committees to raise the
proportion of people of color, women and other underrepresented people in our faculty
and staff positions. This year we were aggressive in our attempts and achieved a pool of
37 candidates for a position search. 35% or more were identified as a member of a
diverse population.
3. The Counselor Education Program will continue teaching academic and
expanding academic content which provides instruction about people of color, women,
and others who experience the disadvantages and challenges of racism, sexism, and
religious intolerance, among others. These issues will be addressed in every course in
our curriculum.
4. The Counselor Education Program will continue to adopt new textbooks for our
classes that emphasize the importance of diversity in our profession, as well as provide a
way for Counselor Education students to broaden their horizons.
5. Screening for admittance of prospective students into the Counselor Educatin
program will continue to be non-discriminatory and supportive to people of color,
women, and other underrepresented students.
6. The Counselor Education Program will continue to provide an accessible working
environment for diverse students, faculty and staff, which promotes participation and
positive interaction, and support for success.
7. Exams provided by professors will be unbiased and conducive to helping students
of diversity achieve at the same level of all other students.
8. Professors will provide students with invaluable, hands on instruction in
Practicum courses that will help the students when issues of racism, sexism, etc. that may
arise in the classroom, office, or any other future working environment.
9. We will encourage student and faculty attendance at university and community
sponsored cultural events. This will be done by announcing events in classes and through
email contact.
