Objective
Students will be able to explain the difference between copy from a book and using the
author as a model.

Activities
   Students will listen to a variety of Dr. Suess books over several days. Students will
   analyze and talk about the structure of Dr. Suess books. Students will participate in
   Circle of Voices using one Dr. Suess book to get the feel for the structure and
   language used. Students will then try it by drafting their own piece. Students will
   share their pieces out loud. Students will sign up for conferences when they are
   ready. The teacher should check pieces for copying words versus copying structure.

Assessment
Review their written pieces. Students will share them out loud and they will be placed in
their portfolios. Students will be graded using a rubric that contains elements from the
Grade Level Content Expectations.
