  Learning Data-driven
    Decision Making
            Our Goals
Goal 1: Introduce Each Teacher to State
Assessments Online

Goal 2: Understand the difference between
Data-Driven Decision Making and opinion

Goal 3: Demonstrate Understanding of
Conceptual Teaching and Learning by
Determining 2 Weakest Concepts for the
Department
              Our Goals
Goal 4: Research Best Practices – Theories for
teaching 2 Weakest Concepts

Goal 5: Understand how to support student learning
using Scaffolding

Goal 6: Create a “Report” for the entire District in
such a way as to imprint in our minds your 2 Weakest
Concepts . Use Method 4 – Dance, Song, Poem, Rap,
Skit, Poster, etc. Help us remember what was the
cause and what is the cure. (To be performed on
Tuesday AM) You will also have from 8:00 to 8:30 AM
Tuesday to finalize your “Report” before giving it to
the district.
                               Goal #1
 Each Teacher uses a Unique Password to access
    Teacher & Student Accountability Data
 Access COMPAS data by Clicking On
           Teacher Resources
           AEIS-IT ONLINE
 Your Department Chair will Give you your Password
 New Teachers need to look at last year’s data for
    your classroom setting
 All teachers need to look at the COHORT data
 Cohort Data can be seen at:
    http://www.arp.sprnet.org/default/District/calendar/July_Board.htm
                  Goal #1
 Spend enough time in AEIS-IT Online so
    that you …
 Can see all the data collected about you,
your program, your students, and your
    campus.
 Get a feel for what happened in your
classroom, in your department, and with
    students at Arp.
 Find the Tutorial Reports that Identify
your TIER 2 & 3 students by objective.
                 Goal #2
 What do you do with the Data from
    the AEIS-IT Online?
     Look at Objectives
 Discover the weighted TEKS (more or

      less questions per objective)
 Look at Questions and Identify each
      Question by Objective
 What Concepts are being tested on
      each Question?
              GOAL #2
Understand the difference between
Data-Driven Decision Making and
   Opinion
1. What does the DATA tell you about
   your program?
2. Think about the Program,
   Procedures, Processes, and Products,
   but NOT Personalities.
3. Write Down Your Thoughts
      Goal #3-- Pair & Share
 Break into groups of 2 or 3 and study
  your content area TAKS scores
 Identify the 2 Weakest Concepts (not
  objectives!!) shown in the data
 Share your 2 Concepts with other
  groups
 Come to a consensus for the
  Department’s 2 Weakest Concepts
                   Goal #4
 Research “Best Practices” (theories) about how to
teach these 2 Concepts that you have identified.
 Talk with other groups and make sure everyone
understands how to get the BEST research results
 EXAMPLE:

measurement +”best practices” +math
 BE SURE AND VIEW THIS VIDEO

 Quilt.mov (Must Have QuickTime Installed)
 View This Math Set of Videos When you Have
  Time
                            Goal #5
 Research “Best Practices” (theories) and
    find “scaffolding” to support weakest
    concepts
 Hint: Scaffolding is a teacher planned help aid
given to students to level the playing field so
        that all students are successful.
     Examples:
 A conversion chart is a scaffold if students know
             how to use it correctly.
 Mr. Gallon Man is a scaffold for “measurement”
                       Goal #6
 Spend some time in your group being very
    creative and innovative.
 Your mission is to help EVERYONE else learn
about your 2 weakest concepts. We want to learn
them so that we will never forget what they are---
    really learn them.
 Use what you know about brain-research when
you decide what you need to do to present your
Concepts to us. We want you to hold our attention
and make us aware of what the issues are and
what all of us can do to help you instruct students
using “best practices” to learn these concepts.
Demonstrate best practices for us through the
multiple intelligences --skits, song, posters, poems,
    Rap, dance, simulation, etc.
                  Goal #6
 Be ready to present your “Report” Tuesday
AM in the High School Auditorium.
