Pre-teaching Vocabulary

Write down each word and its definition. (+6)

• delusion- false belief held in spite of evidence to the

contrary

• imminent- likely to happen soon; threatening

• mackintosh- a waterproof raincoat

• nerve cure- rest and relaxation for anxiety

• pariah- despised or outcast

• French window- also known as French doors;

window reaches floor and can be walked through like

a door

• Using all six vocabulary words, write a

prediction of what you think will happen based

on the story’s title and the vocabulary. (+6)

• Write the words into contextual sentences

(sentences that practically define the word). Here’s

His house was so dilapidated and broken down that
