BENSON -- Mrs. Annie McLamb Gibbs, 96, of 307 East Morgan St. died Thursday in Harnett
Manor in Lillington. She was a member of Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where
she was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Sunday in Benson Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church by the Revs. Don Sauls and Glenn
McCullen. Burial will be in Benson City Cemetery.

Mrs. Gibbs is survived by two daughters, Pearl G. Creech and Verna Mae Lucas, both of
Benson; four sons, Willie A. Gibbs Jr. of Bricktown, N.J., Jimmy Gibbs of San Antonio, Texas,
Charles H. Gibbs of Benson and Paul F. Gibbs of Raleigh; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-
grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in

Annie Pauline Ivey McLamb, 64, of 600 Canal Drive, Dunn, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 3,
2005, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Mrs. McLamb, a Harnett County native, was born
Dec. 24, 1940, to the late Eldridge and Volena Stewart Ivey. She was preceded in death by a
daughter, Sharon Lynette Daughtry; a son, Donald Daughtry; and a grandson, Daniel Nelson.
She was retired from Burlington Industries in Erwin. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday
at Sansom Community Church by the Rev. Jerome Pope and David Morrison. Burial will follow
at Greenwood Cemetery.

Survivors include daughters, Sylvia Miller and husband Teddy of Dunn, Jenny Nelson and
husband Roger of Bethel; a son, Martin Lee Register Jr. and wife Kim of Dunn; brothers, Robert
Ivey and wife Betty, Linwood Ivey and wife Brenda, all of Dunn; sisters, Grace Langdon, Velma
Ivey, Willadean Bullard and husband Frank, Lena Ruth Edwards and husband James, all of
Dunn, and Doris Moore of Wade; and grandchildren, Justin Miller, Amanda Miller, Amberly

follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Benson.

Mrs. McLamb was born September 25, 1904 in Johnston County to the late John Ellington and
Berthanie Lee Hayes. She was a homemaker and a member of Holly Grove Advent Christian
Church. Mrs. McLamb was married to the late James Lloyd McLamb.

Surviving include sons and daughter-in-law, Lloyd "Pete" McLamb, Jimmy and Lunette
McLamb, all of Benson; grandchildren and spouses, Jama and Ken Harper, Jay and Sonya
McLamb; four great-grandchildren, Avery Harper, Evan Harper, William McLamb and Jon
McLamb, all of Benson.

Billy Grey Waddell, 76, of 95 Hope Lane, Dunn, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006. He was born
Aug. 28, 1930, in Wayne County to the late Jarman Alton and Lassie Whaley Waddell. He was a
loom fixer in the textile industry, served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Midway PH
Church.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel by the
Revs. Erfie Hayes, Stoney Chance and Samuel Harvin. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens
with military honors.

Caris D. Adams, 68, of 3665 Woods Crossroads Road, Benson, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at
his home. Mr. Adams was born Oct. 24, 1936, in Johnston County to the late Delma and Vira
McLamb Adams. He was preceded in death by brothers, Dayton, Jimmy and Wallace Adams;
and a sister-in-law, Betty Lou Adams.

He was a 1954 graduate of Meadow High School and attended Kings Business College in
Raleigh. Mr. Adams had retired from Ford Motor Company after 27 years of service. He served
in the U.S. Army, was a member of Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church where he served as
a deacon, was a member of the choir and held other positions in the church. Funeral services will
be held 11 a.m. Friday at Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church by the Revs. Glenn Fell and
Sam Worley. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Ruth Wood Adams; a daughter, Jo Ellen Clifton and husband
Ken of McGee’s Crossroads; sons, Stanley Caris Adams of Goldsboro, Randy Wood Adams and

Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Rev. McLamb served as Boy Scout Master for 7
years with Troop 351 in Garner. Rev. McLamb was the founder and manager for two years for
the "Four In Spirit Quartet", then was the founder and manger of “The Proclaimers Quartet” for
the last 27 years where he sang baritone for both groups.

Melvin Eugene “Gene” Beasley, 72, and his wife Doris McLamb Beasley, 70, of 1115 Greenleaf
Road, McGee’s Crossroads, died Friday from injuries received in an auto accident.

Mr. Beasley was born July 31, 1931, in Johnston County. He was preceded in death by his father,
James Vermon Beasley. He served in the U.S. Army. Mrs. Beasley was born Jan. 22, 1933, in
Johnston County to the late David and Flonnie Morgan McLamb.

They both retired from operating the 210 Grocery near McGee’s Crossroads. Funeral services
were held this morning at 11 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. R.B. Parrish.
Entombment followed in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.
Mr. Beasley is survived by his mother, Vera McGee Beasley; brothers, Jamie Beasley of
Durham, Tommie Beasley of Angier and Donnie Beasley and wife Diane of Angier; and sisters,
LoReta Beasley of Four Oaks and Sue Johnson of Angier.

DUNN -- Ervin Waddell Wood, 76, of Britthaven of Harnett, died Sunday. Mr. Wood was a
farmer and member of Holly Grove Advent Christian Church. The funeral will be conducted at 3
p.m. today in Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel in Benson by the Rev. Calvin Leavitt. Burial
will be in the Young family cemetery in Benson.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Grace R. Wood; two daughters, Bonnie W. Adams of Willow
Spring and Becky W. Barefoot of Randleman; a son, Timmy A. Wood of Benson; a sister,
Meatrice W. Duff of Benson; a brother, Bobby Wood of Benson; five grandchildren; and a great-

Ether McLamb Weeks Nordan, 90, of Core Road, Dunn, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 21,
2005, at Britthaven Nursing Home. She was a retired farmer and seamstress. She was secretary
of her Sunday school class at Stoney Run PFWB Church from 1961 until this year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Mahalia McLamb; her first husband,
Byron Reese Weeks; and her second husband, Matthew Nordan. Funeral services will be at
Stoney Run PFWB Church, Dunn, at 2 p.m. today. The Revs. Preston Heath and Murray King
will officiate. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens.

Mrs. Nordan is survived by a daughter, Jessie Pearl Buie of Dunn; sisters, Earland Flowers of
Linden and Grace Jones of Spivey’s Corner; a brother, Jesse W. McLamb of Dunn;
grandchildren, Lisa Farmer of Dunn and Lee Buie of Rocky Point; and great-grandchildren,
Alycia Farmer, and Alexis, Lee Jr. and Carlie Buie.

                      Garland Leon Whittington, 95, of 184 S. Railroad St., Coats, died
                      Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at Dunn Rehabilitation Center. He was born Oct.
                      22, 1912, in Harnett County to the late Joseph Tyson "Jody" and Rena
                      Williams Whittington. The oldest of 10 children, Mr. Whittington was a
                      retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of Coats Baptist Church.

                      He was preceded in death by brothers, Stacy Whittington, Fonzer
                      Whittington and Preston Whittington. Funeral services will be held 11
                      a.m. Friday at Coats Baptist Church by the Revs. Jesse Mooney and
                      Ronnie Byrd. Burial will follow at Erwin Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Jewell McLamb Whittington; daughters, Wanda W.

Mr. George Calvin McLamb, 82, of 133 Tram Lane, Clayton, died Wednesday, November 21,
2007 at his home. Mr. McLamb was born in Johnston County to the late Junious and Louie
Benson McLamb. He was a member of the VFW and Deacon of Smithfield Advent Christian
Church and owner of M & J used cars.

Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Smithfield Advent Christian

Georgia Jernigan Weeks, 93, of Dunn died Wednesday morning, March 8, 2006, at Britthaven of
Harnett after a period of declining health. She was born in Johnston County on Aug. 20, 1912, to
the late Willie Carson and Lessie McLamb Jernigan. She graduated from Benson High School in
1933. She was preceded in death by sisters, Daisy Jernigan Wood and Louise Jernigan Guill; and
a brother, John Robert Jernigan.

She married Jesse Almon Weeks on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1933, in Dillon, S.C. After raising
her children, she worked and retired from J.C. Penney’s in Fayetteville. Mrs. Weeks was a
longtime member of First Baptist Church of Dunn and even in declining health, listened to the
weekly Sunday morning broadcast on the radio. She also was a faithful member of the Hoe ’n
Grow Garden Club. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Skinner & Smith Funeral
Home by Dr. Len Keever. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Ray A. Weeks and wife Joy of Dunn; a daughter, Joyce Weeks Wade
and husband Jim of Dunn; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Campbell Brown and husband Billy of

                                daughters, Helen Mae Lee, Carolyn Faye Lee and grandson,

                                Mrs. Lee was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, wife,
                                friend and caregiver. She is the founder of Lee's Long Term
                                Care, which was founded in 1972. Mrs. Lee was a resident of
                                Panther Branch Community for 60 years and a present member
                                of Cleveland Community Church. Past member of Evangel P.H.

BENSON -- Mr. Jerald Dean McLamb, 76, of 523 Benson-Hardee Road, died Monday at his
home. A native of Johnston County, Mr. McLamb was born June 23, 1925 to the late Jasper E.
and Sarah Pleasant McLamb. He was a farmer, livestock dealer, founder and operator of
McLamb's Abattoir. Mr. McLamb was recognized for distinguished service to livestock and for
supporting 4-H projects in Johnston and surrounding counties. He was inducted into the Johnston
County Livestock Hall of Fame in 1997.

Mr. McLamb was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army. He was a member and
past commander of Banner Post 109 American Legion, and an active member of Benson Baptist
Church where he served as deacon and in many capacities. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Benson Baptist Church. Officiating will be Revs. Kendell Cameron and Glenn
McCullen. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Jerry Franklin Adams

Jerry Franklin Adams, 62, of 973 Benson-Hardee Road, Benson, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at
his residence. Mr. Adams was born Aug. 27, 1944. His parents were the late W. Clarence Adams
and Lois Adams of Benson. He married Drucilla McLamb in 1971. The couple celebrated their
35th anniversary this year.
Mr. Adams graduated from Benson High School in 1962, attended NCSU, and graduated from
Campbell College with a degree in business administration. He joined the National Guard and
received Basic and AIT training at Fort Ord, Calif. Later he went to flight school at Fort Walters,
Texas, and graduated from Advanced Flight Training at the U.S. Army Aviation School at Fort
Rucker, Ala. Returning to his business interests, Mr. Adams became an SBI agent. Later he was
a bank executive with First Federal and an enforcement officer with the NCDMV. He retired
from the DMV on Friday, Sept. 30, 2001 and on the following Monday, was activated by the
U.S. Army to airport security at RDU and later to border patrol at Niagara Falls, N.Y. This was
following the tragedy of 9-11.

In 2002, Mr. Adams was employed by Comtech to install GPS computer systems in Kuwait.
Before being deployed to Iraq, he was injured and eventually diagnosed with ALS/Lou Gehrig's
disease. He retired from active duty as a CW4 helicopter pilot in November 2005. Following this
diagnosis, Mr. Adams dedicated himself to the study, research and support of ALS, his family,
his military and "flying" buddies, and his churches and his Lord.

He had been involved in church all of his life, beginning as a child at Holly Grove Advent
Christian Church, then following for more than 30 years at Benson Baptist Church where he
served in many capacities, including deacon. He was also actively involved in Benson PFWB
Church, and sharing his personal testimony with area churches.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Benson Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Revs.
Michael Edwards and Glenn McCullen. Burial with full military rites will follow in Roselawn
Cemetery, Benson.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Heather and Braston Newton and Laura and Lee
Pilkington; granddaughters, Jarah Dean Newton and Alyssa Avery Newton; and sister and
brother-in-law, Janet Adams and Glenwood Pollard.

Parrish McLamb. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Goodman; and brothers,

                              Surveying for 32 years. He was a Master Mason, Shriner and a
                              Boy Scout Master. Mr. Peacock was a retired member of the
                              Meadow Fire Department and was a member of Trinity Baptist

Road, McGee’s Crossroads, died Friday from injuries received in an auto accident.
Mr. Beasley was born July 31, 1931, in Johnston County. He was preceded in death by his father,
James Vermon Beasley. He served in the U.S. Army. Mrs. Beasley was born Jan. 22, 1933, in
Johnston County to the late David and Flonnie Morgan McLamb.

They both retired from operating the 210 Grocery near McGee’s Crossroads. Funeral services
were held this morning at 11 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. R.B. Parrish.
Entombment followed in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.

Mr. Beasley is survived by his mother, Vera McGee Beasley; brothers, Jamie Beasley of

Johnston County, Mr. Penny was the son of the late Ransom Edward and Betty Mae Penny. A
1957 graduate of Smithfield High School, he spent six years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
Mr. Penny was a Smithfield police officer for two years and a sergeant with the N.C. Department
of Correction for 30 years. A horse enthusiast, he was a farrier for 35 years. A graveside service
will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.

and past president of Dunn’s Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Mrs. Lucas was a member of the Lou Parrish Chapter of the Eastern Star in Benson, and was
honored to serve as Worthy Matron in 1976 and 1987. Mrs. Lucas was a long time member of
the Benson Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Chairperson for the
Shut-ins, and leader of the "Sunshine Club".

Mrs. Lucas was an avid “rose” gardener, and found joy in taking her beautiful roses to the sick,
as well as sharing them for joyous occasions. She was very creative and spent much of her
retirement years making quilts, blankets, bears, and needlepoint pieces. Many of these she gave
away and are treasured by friends and family. During these years she also enjoyed a “good game
of golf”.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughters and their husbands; Gay Nell &
Vernon Rooney of Morrisville, and Helen & Michael Salt of Richmond, VA.; Grandchildren,
Joey Neighbors and his wife, Sue of Morrisville, Patrick Neighbors and his wife, Carol of
Clayton, and Katherine Salt Curley and her husband, Paul of Richmond; Great Grandchildren,
Michael, Elizabeth, Katie, and Camden Neighbors; Sister, Pearl Creech of Benson; Brothers &
Spouses, W.A. & Ruth Gibbs, Jimmie & Hazel Gibbs, Charles & Frances Gibbs, and Paul &
Mary Alice Gibbs. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Mrs. Lucas will be remembered for her unwavering trust in and love for our Lord Jesus Christ.

DUNN -- Mrs. Viola McLamb Holmes of 4007 N.C. 242 died Thursday in her home. She was
102. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Beulah Baptist Church.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by a son, Charles Holmes of the home; five daughters, Malvirnel
McLamb of Benson, Rowena Barefoot, Agnes Young and Sara Davis, all of Dunn, and Eloise
Fiore of Chesapeake, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-
grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Skinner Funeral Home in Dunn.

Willa Lee Parker Jackson, 87, of Dunn died Monday at Good Hope Hospital in Erwin. Mrs.
Jackson, a Harnett County native, was born Oct. 10, 1915, to the late Lewis Walter and Annie
Hart Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvie Lee Jackson Sr.; a daughter,
Josephine Florence Jackson; brothers, Perene and Thurman Parker; sisters, Delores Jackson,
Maggie Lucas, Flossie Allen, Eva Glover, Claire Stoltman and Corrine Thigpen.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home
Chapel by the Revs. Ronnie Byrd and Jerome Pope. Burial will follow in Hodges Chapel Church
Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Arvie Lee Jackson Jr. of Dunn; daughters, Peggy Thigpen of Coats,
Willa Dean Parrish of Erwin, Ann Marie Sikes of Metter, Ga., Barbara Lee Bradshaw of Erwin
and Charlene Sutton of Erwin; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-
grandchildren.

Mr. Willard McLamb, 82, of Dunn died Tuesday evening at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital.
The Johnston County native was the son of the late David and Flonnie M. McLamb. He was a
life long farmer and a member of the Relief Masonic Lodge in Benson. A funeral service will be
conducted 2 P.M. Friday at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home by Rev. Leon Tart and Mack
McLamb. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Marglie B. McLamb of Dunn, a daughter, Judy McLamb Thomas of
Dunn, a son, Ricky McLamb of Dunn, three brothers, Carlyle McLamb of Dunn, Billy C.
McLamb of Benson, Clayton McLamb of Dunn, two sisters, Rachel Raynor of Dunn and

Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 29, 1943 in Johnston County to the late
Parson Coy and Vada Ivey McLamb.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minshew Funeral Home Chapel by the
Revs. Billy Nowell and Durwood Jackson. Burial will follow in Lee's Chapel Church cemetery.
