NWS Strategic Plan - Goals
• GOAL 1: Improve weather decision services for events that
threaten lives and livelihoods.
• GOAL 2: Deliver a broad suite of improved water forecasting
services to support management of the nation’s water supply
• GOAL 3: Support climate services to help communities, businesses,
and governments understand and adapt to climate-related risk
• GOAL 4: Improve sector-relevant information in support of
economic productivity
• GOAL 5: Enable integrated environmental forecast services
supporting healthy communities and ecosystems
• GOAL 6: Sustain a highly-skilled, professional workforce equipped
with the training, tools, and infrastructure to meet our mission

Roadmap Alignment
• Four teams:
– Services Plan
• Defines NWS services of the future and how they will be managed,
communicated, marketed, and executed
– S&T Plan
• Defines technical solutions to meet services needs of the future;
provides technical solutions to IT infrastructure issues
– Workforce Evolution Plan
• Address the strategic management of the workforce over the next
5 to 10 years, along with the training/tools required to enable the
workforce to implement new services in the future
– Business Plan
• Outlines the current cost of services and investment required to
implement this initiative; calculates the anticipated Return on
Investment
