Victoria and Albert Museum Christmas tree 2011 by Studio Roso
In November 2011 London based art fabricator SmallProjects
was asked by Studio Roso to help develop, fabricate and
install their chosen design for the Christmas tree in the
main entrance of the V&A in London.
The 4.2m tall tree is made of 3.3 miles of elastic cord,
wrapped in bundles of ten strands and stretched from
a suspended bracket into keyhole locating points in a
heavily weighted aluminium and plywood base.
The cords are spread at specific locations, defined
by hand-tied threads, to form geometric shapes
which reference both traditional decorations
and the formation of snowflakes or icicles.
SmallProjects collaborated with Studio Roso
to complete the design, fabrication and
installation of this piece in under three
weeks.
See more images of the fabrication
and installation.
