 Installing additional memory—Precautions
 This CPU adopts the new QPI architecture (serial).
 The memory installation procedure differs from the conventional FSB architecture (parallel).
 As the memory controller is integrated in the CPU, the maximum number of memory depends on the number of CPUs.
 Installation procedures below are defined as to achieve efficient multi-core/multi-task performance.
     1CPU configuration supports 2-way interleave. 2CPU configuration supports 2- and 4-way interleave.
 Registered type and Unbuffered type cannot be mixed.
 Memory Installation Guide
 Memory installation sequence and socket are determined. Mount in order according to memory capacity from large to
small, and in sequence starting from #1 as indicated in below illustration
1CPU configuration (maximum 4 memory boards)
               1 3
                                     CPU 1

2CPU configuration (maximum 8 memory boards)
Allocated sockets differ from 1CPU configuration.

 Memory interleave
 This CPU adopts the independent channel method which increases memory bandwidth by installing each
memory to different channels. Memory interleaving increases access speed to achieve higher memory
         performance.
 The BIOS recognizes the actual memory configuration and memory will be interleaved where capable, and
will operate in non-interleave mode where not.

 DIMM configuration examples for Memory Interleave
    1CPU configuration supports 2-way interleave, and 2CPU configuration supports 2- and 4-way interleave.
Interleaving is performed according to actual configuration.
 For high-speed memory access, select a configuration which supports interleaving.
 The lower 2CPU table is a description of the interleave mode when the Non-Uniform Memory Access function
(NUMA) is OFF (default). For descriptions on when NUMA is ON, refer to the 1CPU table as each CPU will
       separately perform interleaving.

 HDD Connection/RAID Configuration -- Precautions
Case A/F Non RAID Case D/I N8103-117A RAID controller (128MB cache)
Case B/G On-board RAID (RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50)*
         (RAID 0/1/10) Case E/J N8103-118A RAID controller (256MB cache)
Case C/H N8103-116A RAID controller (128MB cache) (RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50)*
         (RAID 0/1/10) * Case I/J does not support RAID50

 RAID configuration
 For RAID configuration, provide HDDs of same capacity and rotation speed within same group (pack). Also,
use the same rotation speed HDDs in the system. (Refer to the next page for SAS/SATA mix configuration)

 Case A/F (Non-RAID configuration), Case B/G (On-board RAID)
 On-board RAID function (LSI Embedded MegaRAID)
 RAID calculations utilize the CPU on the motherboard
 When adding 2TB HDD [N8150-283] in Case G, RAID10 is not supported.

 Case C/H (N8103-116A RAID Controller [LSI MegaRAID])
 Insert RAID controller to PCI slot for RAID configuration. RAID calculations utilize the CPU on the RAID
    controller.

 Case D/I (N8103-117A RAID Controller [LSI MegaRAID]), Case E/J (N8103-118A RAID Controller [LSI MegaRAID])
 Insert RAID controller to PCI slot for RAID configuration. RAID calculations utilize the CPU on the RAID
    controller.

 When using RAID Controller in Cases C/D/E/H/I/J - Precautions
 The controller is set to “write-through” by default. For higher performance, it is recommended to install a
additional battery and operate on “write-back” mode. For details on how to change settings, refer to the Users
Guide attached to the main unit.
   Write-through mode
 A synchronous write to the hard disk occurs when there is a write to a cache memory.
   Write-back mode
 When there is a write to a cache memory, the completion notification is issued to the software immediately,
while the array controller performs a asynchronous write to the hard disk. In general, the access speed is
faster than write-through mode. An UPS or batteries to backup the data is required.

                                                                                                           1-7-24
                                                                            Express5800/iR120a-1E

2.5-inch Drive Model and Mixed Configuration of HDD and SSD

                                                     Slot 2 Slot 4 Slot 6

            Slot 0 Slot 1 Slot 3 Slot 5 Slot 7

 Mixed configuration of HDD(SAS/SATA) and SSD
 For mixed configuration of SAS HDD and SATA SSD, RAID controller is required.
 Mixed configuration within same RAID group (pack) is not supported.
 Mixed configuration of 3 different drives (SAS HDD,SATA HDD, and SATA SSD) within one server is not
     supported.
 Mixed configuration of SAS HDDs of different rotation is not supported.
 Install HDD (SAS/SATA) in sequence from Slot #0. Remaining slots can be used for installing SSD.

Example: Install SAS HDD in slots Slot 2 Slot 4 Slot 6
#0–#5, SATA SSD in slots #6–#7 (SAS HDD) (SAS HDD) (SATA SSD)

           Slot 0 Slot 1 Slot 3 Slot 5 Slot 7
