I. WHAT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PASTOR?
THE BIBLE SAYS:                 ACTS 20:27-28                 I PET 5:2             ACTS 20:28-30

FROM THIS WE LEARN:
1. Pastors are to oversee the church as a shepherd does his flock.                  Acts 20:28
2. Pastors are to feed the church the Word of God.                                  Acts 20:27; I Pet 5:2
3. Pastors are to protect the church.                                               Acts 20:28-30
4. Pastors are to be examples by show and tell.                                     Acts 20:20; I Pet 5:3
5. Pastors are to care for and help maintain the members of the church.             Heb 13:17
II. WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE OFFICE OF OFFICE?
THE BIBLE SAYS:                I COR 9:16                   I TIM 2:12; 3:1         I TIM 3:2-4
TITUS 1:6-8                    TITUS 1:9-13                 I TIM 3:6-7
FROM THIS WE LEARN:
1. He must be called of God to preach.                                      I Cor 9:16
2. The office can only be filled by a man.                                  I Tim 2:12; 3:1
3. He must live a blameless life—in control of his temperament & attitude.  I Tim 3:2 Titus 1:6-7-8
a. Blameless in his home life concerning his wife & children.               I Tim 3:2, 4
b. Blameless in his personal life.                                          I Tim 3:2-3, Titus 1:8
4. He must have the gift of teaching.                                       I Tim 3:2
5. He must be fond of people.                                               I Tim 3:2
6. He must be doctrinally sound.                                            Titus 1:9
7. He must be willing and able to deal with troublemakers.                  Titus 1:9-13
8. He must be mature enough to make good decisions.                         I Tim 3:6
9. He must have a good reputation in the community.                         I Tim 3:7
III. WHAT AUTHORITY DOES THE PASTOR HAVE?
THE BIBLE SAYS:                ACTS 20:28            I COR 4:1               TITUS 1:7
I PET 4:10; 5:3-5              HEB 13:17             I THESS 2:7-11

1. He has the responsibility to guide the teaching & direction of the church as a shepherd. Acts 20:28
2. He is called & commissioned by God to lead the church as a steward.               I Cor 4:1; Titus 1:7;
                                                                             I Pet 4:10; 5:3-5; Heb 13:17
3. His authority is motivated by love for God’s people like a the love of a father for his children.
                                                                                     I Thess 2:7-11
IV. ARE THERE LIMITATIONS TO THE PASTOR’S AUTHORITY?

5. He is limited by the power of the church.                                        I Thess 2:7-11
IV. WHAT IS THE REWARD FOR PASTORS?
THE BIBLE SAYS:     I PET 5:4                                ACTS 20:32             II COR 5:9
I TIM 3:1           I THESS 5:12-13                          I TIM 5:17-18
FROM THIS WE LEARN:
1. They will receive a special crown.                                  I Pet 5:4
2. They will receive an inheritance for their labors.                  Acts 20:32
3. They will receive God’s approval for a job well done.               II Cor 5:9
4. They know the work to which they give their lives is a good work.   I Tim 3:1
5. They are to be esteemed for dedicated Christian service.            I Thess 5:12-13
6. They are to be financially taken care of while here on earth.       I Tim 5:17-18
