TITLE: Television Producer/Director
EFFECTIVE DATE: October 1, 2011
DEPARTMENT: School of AREAS’ Media & Communications Unit
REPORTS TO: Director of Media and Communications
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time
SALARY RANGE: Negotiable – Commensurate with education and experience
FUNDING SOURCE:
Justification of Position: This position is 100% funded by the School of Agriculture, Research,
Extension and Applied Sciences (AREAS). The position is critical in order to implement several objectives of
the unit.
PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Television Producer assists with production planning, establishes
technical procedures and methods, evaluates and recommends equipment purchases, operates equipment, edits
recordings, performs maintenance, instructs technicians, assesses tape (and digital) quality and prepares
reports, and maintains correct signal parameters.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The Television Producer is responsible for providing expertise in the area
of television and video production. Through this position this individual serves as a team member of the
School of AREAS’ Media and Communications Unit.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serves as the technical director/switcher of live and live-to-server/tape HD/SD video projects, and as
technical director/switcher on field and studio multi-camera productions for documentary, magazine,
corporate, and educational programs.
Utilizes multi-cameras, graphics, varying playback sources, digital effects, and complex SD/HD signal
flow/routing to achieve Director-called final switched product.
Participates in a variety of broadcast and closed-circuit operations, including: setup and operation of
broadcast equipment in the origination, transmission, reception, evaluation, and recording of audio and
video signals.
Attend and participate in required conferences, training, workshops, etc. that are designed to enhance
skills and knowledge.
Maintain a working relationship with all AREAS and University’s faculty and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in telecommunications, communications, video production, or related
field and two years of professional experience in broadcast or high-end instructional or industrial
television production, including hands-on experience with video switches, video routers, server and
tape machines, digital video effects, video monitors, and cameras required. Strong journalism and
story-telling ability; knowledge of and experience with Sony and/or Grass Valley/Thompson HD video

switchers; ability to manage projects and digital workflow in a live production environment; and
ability to work independently within a deadline-driven, live production atmosphere needed. Additional
experience with videography, lighting audio, and editing on non-linear/digital editing systems
preferred. Three to five years total experience preferred.

skills; computer skills; ability to complete projects by deadline; proficient with Microsoft Office Products,
E-mail and Internet; organized; successful experience working in a team environment; ability to manage
multiple priorities, objectives, and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
