Everything Wedding- Cakes, Wedding Shower, Wedding Toasts and More

There is so much information available on the internet pertaining to weddings, it can be

overwhelming! I've done the research and narrowed down some great sites and ideas. I hope you

find them helpful.

DIY Wedding Cake It's Easier Than You Think

What prompted me to create this lens, is that my niece is getting married and I am doing her

wedding cake. Yikes! It's not so scary. Wilton (the authority in cake decorating) offers classes

through JoAnn's and Michael's. Check with your local store. If you are too afraid of decorating a

wedding cake all on your own, you may not know (as I did not) that you can buy made of icing,

fondant or gum paste. The hard part is done for you, all you need to do is place them on the

wedding cake! In addition, wilton offers a wealth of on their web-site.

Wedding Shower Cake

There are many different cake options for a wedding shower cake, here are a few ideas:

-Use whatever flower the bride is using for her wedding to adorn the cake

-Outline an upside-down umbrella in icing and fill it with flowers

-Use sayings like "Showers of Happiness" or "Showers of Love"

-Fondant ribbons are easier than you think! Try this adorable cake, all wrapped up!

-Simple wedding bells on a cake or a bell shaped cake

Any Occasion CupCakes

These were for an anniversary party, but you can make these for a Wedding, Wedding Shower, or

whatever you choose! If you are going to make these, Beware they are top heavy! The white

frosting really should not be showing, however, if I would have adjusted them the whole thing

would have fallen over!

Grooms Cake Ideas

Is he a beer guy? A car guy? Does he enjoy working with tools or does he like sports? These are

all great themes for a grooms cake! Truthfully, this cake was a Birthday Cake for my husband, but

could be used for a Groom's Cake too!

Another Grooms Cake or Shower Cake?

You can apply any team to this Cardinal cupcake ensemble by swtiching colors around and the

mascot on top. The baseballs, bats and cardinal were all made of fondant. I hand painted the

stiches on the baseballs with wilton dye (if you do the baseballs a little larger the stiches will be

easier to do).

This was actually a baby shower cake....but not all families are into baseball the way mine is!

The Gown Do's and Dont's For Bridal Attire

Questions about what is appropriate for bridal attire? Check out this great list of

your dog!

Calla Lilly Wedding Shower Cake I'm practicing what I am preaching!

Okay kids, here's the cake I did for my niece's wedding shower. The calla lilly's really aren't that

hard! As you can see, I did a better job on them than the hearts I attempted in the upper right hand

corner.

My First Wedding Cake

Please learn from me! We were so excited that the hall was available the day before the wedding.

We were able to ice the cake and put it together there instead of transporting it. The hall had to be

80 degrees Icing does not like warmth. Be certain to check to see if your hall will turn the air on for

you!!

So the cake is leaning a hair and didn't look great close up, but here it is!

How Do You Keep The Ribbon In Place?

Easy! Use corsage pins in the back of the cake! Someone will need them anyway, and the pearl

heads look pretty! We opted for two ribbons here. If you look closely you will see that one wider

and they are two shades of purple. Also, one has sheen to it, which and adds a nice touch!

More Cake and Flower Tips

Don't bother buying wiltons flower drying containers.

Do use corn on the cobb trays!! I dried my leaves in them and they turned out awesome!! It gave

them a natural looking curve.

Don't spend the time making a green floral base on your flowers....you won't see it!

Do stick with leaves for color.

Don't worry about how you will attach the flowers to the cake. I had no idea how the lillies were

going to go on the cake. Guess what? I just set them on it and turned them how I wanted them,

that's it!

Do plan on removing the flowers and leaves before serving the cake....now you can re-use them!!

Do experiment with colors and textures for the flower stamen. I died the stamen yellow and rolled

it in yellow sparkles!

How To Make A Calla Lilly

Here's how simple it is!!

Supplies Needed:

1. White fondant

2. Yellow Dye

3. Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter

4. Small batch of royal icing

5. Waxed paper

6. Rolling Pin

Steps:

1. Roll out fondant onto waxed paper approx. 1/4" thick

2. Use heart shaped cookie cutter on rolled fondant

3. Shape bottom of heart into a cone shape

4. Press fondant together at base and press down opposite edge and make slight roll back on top

to mock flower shape

5. Let dry over-night

6. Meanwhile, use yellow dye on new fondant

7. Tear off small pieces and roll for stamen

8. Set aside to dry over-night

9. When flowers are dry, place small amount of white royal icing where you made the cone shape

10. Place stamen inside (royal icing acts as glue)

11. Allow to dry over-night Seriously, that's it!! Experiment a little and you will be making fabulous

calla lilly's in no time!

More on Calla Lilies

Just a quick note, if you are considering making Calla Lilies for a cake, Beware they are very very

time consuming! I have spent a good 30 hours on 30-some flowers, leaves and stems. After the

event (5 more days!) I'll post the cake and more tips that I have learned throughout this process.
