Atlanta. Current efforts extend from collaboration with other
parents to promote understanding of children with disabili-
ties to local Daisy Troops, with hopes to bring this presenta-
tion to East Cobb’s elementary schools.

Do you remember the warm feeling you got as a child
when an adult read to you? Share that feeling with your
child while helping Whole Foods Market at Merchant’s Walk
bring the same enjoyment to children who have never had
a book given to or purchased for them.
During the week of March 5-11, Whole Foods and the
non-profit organization Children’s Literacy of Georgia (CLG,
www.childrensliteracyga) are raising funds to buy books for
local children in need. CLG Director Dr. Joan Davey says,
“Every dollar donated will purchase a book for a child who
does not have access to books in the home.”

one, he/she will receive a free book. Story time space is

The East Cobb Lions Club invites you to participate in
the East Cobb Lions Club Foundation’s 21st Annual Charity
Golf Tournament. This tournament presents an outstanding
opportunity for any individual or business to receive recog-
nition for sponsoring an event that provides much-needed
funds for the Lions Club support to deserving projects in the
Cobb County community. This is their major annual fund-
raiser, with the monies going directly to numerous programs
they help sponsor, most notably sight and hearing conserva-
tion programs that include the Georgia Camp for the Blind,
Leader Dog Program, Recordings for the Blind, and the
Georgia Lighthouse Foundation. They also provide college
scholarships to students from six high schools in East Cobb
County.

Restaurant owner Michael Fortunato learned southern
Italian cooking at the knees of his Italian grandparents,
and he learned to hustle in the streets of Philadelphia,
where he was earning baseball card money at the tender
age of 9 by buying and reselling farm-fresh produce from a
shopping cart.
Caffe Fortunato, located in Paper Mill Village, grew
out of Fortunato’s vision for a unique, family-friendly neigh-
borhood cafe that served the Italian food of his child-
hood. His pasta is handmade. His pizzas are wood-fired.
Everything is fresh and flavorful.
“Our style is more European, and our food is lighter
than the typical Italian fare,” Fortunato said. “I don’t serve
anything in here that I wouldn’t serve to my own family.”
One of his specialties is Cioppino, a seafood stew
with fresh prawns, calamari, mussels, clams, daily catch,
tomatoes, garlic and Mediterranean herbs. He also makes
a killer Margherita pizza with San Marzano tomato sauce,
fresh mozzarella, basil and extra virgin olive oil. Creative
Loafing voted Caffe Fortunato’s pizza with truffles one of its
“Top 10 Things” in 2010.

East Cobb-born Musician Composes Music for
Mississippi Documentary

ReMixed. The one-hour documentary film explores the history
of segregation in Mississippi and tells the story of Ottewell’s
return to her birthplace in Jackson, determined to celebrate
the great racial transformations in the state since the 1960s,
only to discover even deeper complications than she antici-
pated.
The son of Cynthia and Bill Davis of East Cobb, Joel is a
music composer and a 2005 graduate of Samford University
in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was named the school’s
first Lilly Endowment Graduate Fellow. Joel completed doc-
toral studies at Claremont Graduate University in California
and is a faculty member at The Master’s College in Santa
