Why GCSE Music?
• Do you perform better with course
work than examinations?
• Are you creative?
• Do you enjoy practical activities?
If you have answered Yes to any of the
above then Music may be for you
What will I be doing for
the next two years?
• You will learn techniques so you can
create your own music
• You will practice performing using
either an instrument or your voice
• You will listen to a range of different
types of music to highlight examples
of technical knowledge and skills
Do I need to be able to
play an instrument now?
• Yes. You must be able to play a
musical instrument or have an
exceptional singing ability if you
are to achieve a good grade in
music.
Course work or exams?
• 25% of your marks will be for composing
your own music
• 25% of your marks will come from you
performing both on your own and with
others
• 25% will come from an integrated
assignment which will be produced in
class over a period of time
• 25% will be based on a written
examination paper based upon listening,
identifying and evaluating music
