How Do We Interconnect?

Path 1 (AESO intertie) consists
of 5L94, 1L274 & 1L275

Path 3 (BPAT intertie) consists
of 5L51/52, 2L112 and Teck-
Cominco 71L

There are quite a few paths for
which ATC is posted but the
Path to the US and Alberta are
the most important (e.g. BCH-
FBC, BCH LM to BPA)

• Instead of dealing with a number
  of parties try to have one outfit do
  the project

• Since the solution was to use
  Areva’s EMS environment, it was
  decided to have Areva provide a
  budgetary estimate with no
  obligations

• Areva did provide a budgetary
  estimate

Achievements So Far- Alstom’s Budgetary Estimate
• Budgetary estimate was high considering that it did not include a
  number of items

• Met with Alstom on August 31 to discuss, Proposal, Price, Base-
  lining and Governance

• Discussion Summary
   – BC Hydro should manage both Alstom and Powertech
   – BC Hydro to perform use case studies to come up with a more
     detailed requirement document for sharper estimates
   – Alstom is prepared to baseline the solution except for the TRM
   – TRM development expensive

• BC Hydro has been developing the detailed requirements

• Alternative design with TRM calculations outside the tool
Wrap-up
