					               Results from the On Line Consultation
                        Seaton Infant School July 2010


Seaton Junior School, Workington, were amongst the first to complete the Youth Survey on
line. The questions were agreed with Strategic Development, and are similar to those used in
the annual Youth Summer Surveys, as a bench mark is available from previous information
gathered.

A total of 98 on line questionnaires were completed

Question 1 –
“Which of the following issues are a worry for you in your area?

The following results were provided:

Most young people who completed the questionnaire, chose more than one issues as a worry
to them, but it is worth noting that yet again, dangerous driving/speeding vehicles, is one of
the main worries for young people, the same issue was highlighted at a recent consultation
event held at Furness Academy Barrow.

Question 2 -
“Do you think that the Police treat Young People with Respect?”
96 out of the 98 respondent’s replied “yes” when asked “do you think that the police treat
young people with respect? Representing 97.96%!

Amongst the comments for those who gave a positive response were:
“The Police are very respectful, especially to children and young people
They never give up finding or chasing criminals
I know my Officers and they always say Hello”.


Question 3 –
“Do you have confidence in the Police in your area?”
89 out of a total of 98 respondents answered yes, representing 91%!

For those whose response was “no”, the following reasons were given:
“They are not there when they are needed
Sometimes they catch robbers and sometimes they don’t
Because the Police are on the other side of the bridge
I don’t talk to them much, I only say Hi”

    By name – 28 - (28%)
    By Sight – 35 – (36%)
    By Name and By Sight – 35 – (36%)


Question 5 –
“If you get in touch with the Police, what would be your preferred method of contact?”

It is important that as an Authority we maintain contact with the Young People within Cumbria,
when asked how they would prefer to contact Police in the future, the most popular method
was to visit the Police Station, and then to speak to an Officer within School.
