                            Congratulations to Katie Burns
We are excited to announce that Miss Burns, kindergarten teacher here at NBE, was selected as First
Coast News Teacher of the Week. Miss Burns is a member of the school’s leadership team, leads the
Science Vertical Learning Team, and serves on the school’s Shared Decision Team. We are so proud
of Miss Burns and appreciate her commitment and dedication to NBE. She joins Pauline Gonzales in
this special recognition who was Teacher of the Week in December.

                                                  Did you Know?
Did you know that in the first 81 days of school there were over 1, 549 tardies and early checkouts at New Berlin? Out of the 1, 549
524 were excused and 1,005 were unexcused. There is an average of 90 students absent daily and 19 students who are late or check
out early. Did you know that research shows that students who miss 10 or more days of school drops one level on standardized tests
and when a student misses an average of ten school days a year, it equates to nearly a year of schooling lost by the time they are
seniors? If your child is absent due to illness, is tardy or checks out early, DCPS requires a written note to verify absence. Let’s
work together to reduce the number of tardies and early checkouts so students don’t miss instruction. Thank you.
