    Instructions
This survey should take less than 30 minutes to complete. You may do this by either:
 printing out a copy and answering the questions in pen
 saving this file to disk, opening it in Microsoft Word, typing in answers, and SAVING the file again.
Addresses for returning the questionnaires (by email, post or in person) are provided at the end of the survey.

You will be asked about a number of systems that you may have used as part of your studies. There are separate
sections covering Internet search engines, the Voyager library system, and digital library sites (e.g. the ACM). If you
have not used one of these you will need access to the Internet to complete the survey. Please read the following
instructions that are to be followed when answering each group of questions about each separate type of system.

    1. If you have not used one of the systems in question, please:
 answer No to question A on System Use
 try the recommended system, e.g. to search for background information for your project
 record the number of minutes you spent using the recommended system
 skip the rest of the questions in the section on System Use
 answer the questions on Usability based on your experience of the recommended system.

    2. If you have used a particular type of system before then please provide the name of the system you use most
frequently and answer the questions on Usability based on your experience of that system.

    3. Some questions require a written answer and you should write in the box provided. Otherwise, tick the box that
best matches your experience of the information system or source in question. If you are completing the survey
electronically to tick (or untick) a box or select a box to type in, click with the mouse on the desired box.
