Where are we now?
Background, Gap analysis, Potential development areas, Competition consistency, Detail of
inclusive activity

The Competition Manager in Stockport is based at the Priestnall High School, the borough
Sportd College. He works alongside the two PDMs, one of which is based with him at
Priestnall.

The borough has two Partnerships; Stockport (phase 7) and Priestnall (phase 9). Within the
Stockport Partnership there are 6 secondary schools and 33 primary schools. There are also
3 special schools, 1 pupil referral unit and 2 FE colleges. The total number of Young People
in the Stockport Partnership is ? (awaiting PESSYP figures).

The Priestnall Partnership is made up of 8 secondary schools and 53 primary schools. They
also have 1 secondary special school, 2 primary special schools and 1 pupil referral unit. This
Partnership has 1 FE college. The total number of Young People in the Priestnall Partnership
is ? (awaiting PESSYP figures).

The total number of Young People in both Partnerships in the Borough is ? (awaiting
PESSYP figures).

Across the two Partnerships there are 13 SSCOs (7 PR, 6 ST). Two of the SSCOs work in
dual roles across 2 high schools, and one is also responsible for inclusion across both
Partnerships (details of Inclusion Activities will be attached).

Stockport also has a secondary SSA, a secondary SFA (Football) and a primary SSA (split
into 4 areas; north, south, east and west). These associations are responsible for a lot of the
competition taking place in schools across the borough. To compliment this there are a
number of community coaches (cricket, rugby union, karate, cheerleading, athletics,
multiskills) that work with Stockport SSPs to organise events in specific sports for a number of
year groups. The PLTs and SSCOs work closely to arrange additional festivals/events that
can culminate in teams representing Stockport at county events (i.e. mini/youth games).

The PDMs are currently collating all the PESSCL survey data for 2008/09 so it is difficult to
identify potential development areas. However using the knowledge from previous surveys
and having spoken to the SSCOs there may be a shortage in participation in KS3 and KS4
(girls in particular). KS1 will also be a target, using the multiskills coaches to put on festivals.

High quality competition will be an area that the CM will concentrate on. Specifically improving
club links, creating a Competition Disk for all SSCOs/PLTs (including rules, formats, registers,
risk ass, club contacts etc), involving Young Leaders/Ambassadors, and identifying Gifted and
Talented. All these factors will increase pathways, consistency and development.

A break down of the PESSYP figures 2008/09 will be attached when analysed. Here are the
overall figures for last year 2008/09:-
