					Adolescent Aggressive Behavior
Monday 23rd of yesterday my heart was sad when I saw the news on a private television station, where
two groups of teenagers who are still wearing a blue and white uniforms clashed in a street struck the
capital, Jakarta. Yes, that's what kids our junior high students who are attacking each other with each
other, aka brawl.

The incident was immediately reminded me of a year ago, in which our society digegerkan with deviant
acts committed by our youth, in Bandung with bike gang, the gang Neronya in Pati, as well as in other
places that did not get exposed by the media . That is one side of teenage life in our beloved country,
which supposedly will be the next generation.

For our society, acts of violence, either individually or in bulk may have a daily news. As we all know at
this time some television (both national and local) and even create special programs that broadcast
news about violence.

Acts of violence can happen anywhere, as in the streets, in schools, in housing complexes, even in the
countryside. Action may take the form of verbal violence (berate) as well as physical violence (hitting,
punching, etc.). In action among adolescents commonly known as student brawls / mass is already too
often we have seen, and even tended to be normal. Perpetrators of acts of this action even have been
started by students in junior secondary / junior high. This is very worrying for us all
Acts of violence that often do teenage aggression is actually the behavior of the individual or group.
Aggression itself according Scheneiders (1955) is a surge of emotion as a reaction to the failure of
individuals who are revealed in the form of destruction against persons or objects with the element of
intent expressed by the words (verbal) and nonverbal behavior.

Aggressive by Murry (in Halll and Lindzey, 1993) as a suatui didefinisiakan way to fight with a very
strong, fighting, wounding, attack, kill, or punish others. Or in a nutshell aggression is an act intended to
injure others or damage property of others.

Aggressive behavior, according to David O. Sars (1985) is any perilkau that aims to hurt other people,
can also be addressed to the feeling of wanting to hurt others in a person.

Meanwhile, according to Abidin (2005) has some characteristic aggressive. Characteristics of the first, is
aggressive behavior that is harmful, hurtful, and wounding others. The second characteristic, aggressive
behavior is a committed person with intent to injure, hurt, and harm others or in other words done on
purpose. The third characteristic, aggression is not only done to hurt the victim physically, but also a
psychic (psychological), for example, through activities that insulting atu blame.

Of the several definitions that have been raised then can we draw the conclusion that aggressive
behavior is an act of violence, either verbally or physically deliberate performed by individuals or groups
against other people or other objects with the aim to melaukai physically and psychologically.

The question then is what factors can trigger the aggressive behavior? Why trivial cases in the social life
of everyday people can suddenly turn into a big disaster that resulted in the loss of human life? Why To
answer these questions, it helps us understand first what are the causes of aggressive behavior.

According to Davidoff adolescent aggressive behavior is influenced by several factors:

1. Biological Factors
There are several biological factors that affect aggressive behavior that is:

a. The gene seems to affect the formation of the neural systems that regulate behavioral aggression.
From research conducted on animals, ranging from the difficult to the most easily provoked anger,
heredity seems to make male animals derived from different types of more irritable than females.

b. Brain systems involved in aggression were not able to reinforce or inhibit the neural circuits that
control aggression. In simple animals anger can be inhibited or enhanced by stimulating the limbic
system (which cause pleasure areas in humans) so there is a reciprocal relationship between pleasure
and cruelty. Prescott (Davidoff, 1991) states that the person will be a little pleasure-oriented aggression
while the people who have never experienced the fun, excitement or leisurely inclined to cruelty and
destruction (aggression). Prescott believes that a strong desire to destroy due to the inability to enjoy
things that caused brain injury from lack of stimulation when the baby is.

c. Blood chemistry. Blood chemistry (particularly the sex hormones are partly determined heredity) can
also affect the behavior of aggression. In an experiment scientists injected the mice testosteropada
hormones and some other animals (testosterone is the primary androgen hormone that gives the male
sex characteristics), the rats were fighting more frequent and more powerful. When testosterone is
reduced into a gentle animal. The fact shows that children who had been castrated bull (cut off her
genitals) will be benign. Whereas in women who are experiencing menstrual period, levels of female
hormones that estrogendan progresteronmenurun amount as a result many women report that they
feel irritable, restless, tense and hostile. In addition, many women who have violated the law (acts of
aggression) during the menstrual cycle.

2. Environmental factors
That influence adolescent aggressive behavior that is:

a. Poverty
Teenagers are great in environments of poverty, then they are naturally aggressive behavior
strengthened. It is very sad is to protracted crises and monetary causes pembengklakan ekonimi
kemskinan increasingly out of control. This means that the potential explosion of the greater levels of
aggression. Yes, although we must admit that poverty was not always make someone behave
aggressively, with evidence of many people in rural poverty despite living in a state but not
membuatnnya behave aggressively, because he has accepted his situation is.

b. Anoniomitas
Too much sensory stimulation and cognitive make the world a very impersonal, meaning from one
person to another person no longer know each other. Furthermore, individuals tend to be anonymous
(not having identiras themselves). If a person feels anonymous it tends to behave arbitrarily, because he
was not terikkat with community norms da less sympathize with others.

c. The temperature of the hot air
When observed closely brawl that occurred in Jakarta often occurs at noon in the blazing hot sun, but
when the rainy season is relatively no incidents. So also with the demonstrations that led to clashes with
security forces that are common in hot weather and hot but when rain-soaked day of action has also
been quiet.

This is consistent with the view that a high ambient temperature have an impact on social behavior in
the form of increased aggressiveness. In 1968 U.S. Riot Comision been reported that in the summer, a
series of riots and mass aggression are more prevalent in the United States compared with other
seasons (Fisher et al, in Sarlito, Environmental Psychology, 1992

3. The generation gap
The differences or gaps (gap) between the generations of children with their parents can be seen in the
form of communication links that increasingly minimal and often incoherent. Failure of communication
between parents and children believed to be one of the causes of aggressive behavior in children.

4. Anger
Anger is an emotion that has a characteristic activity of the parasympathetic nervous system is high and
the feeling of a very strong dislike which is usually due to an error that muingkin akarena manifestly
wrong or maybe not (Davidoff, An Introduction to Psychology, 1991). At the moment there is a sense
Amrah want to strike, punch, destroy or throw something and usually develops a cruel mind. When it
happens it is channeled aggressive behavior.

5. The role of learning model of violence
Model of the heroes in the movies is often a reward after they commit violent acts. It can make the
audience will increasingly get reinforcement that this is a wonderful thing and can be used as a value
system for himself. By watching scenes of violence took place the process of learning a role model and
Promised violence is becoming very effective for the creation of aggressive behavior.

6. Frustration
Frustration occurs when someone is blocked by ssesuatu thing in achieving a goal, needs, desires,
expectations or specific action. Aggression is one way of responding to frustration. Teenagers poor
rogue is a result of the frustration that relate to the amount of idle time, financial mediocre and there
needs to be immediate but it's hard tepenuhi tercap [ai. As a result they become irritable and behave

7. Disciplinary process is wrong
Educational discipline with the application of harsh authoritarian primarily done by providing physical
punishment, can cause various adverse effects for adolescents (Sukadji, Family and Educational Success,
1988). Disciplines such as education will make a teenager into a coward, not friendly with other people,
hate people who give punishment, loss of spontaneity and loss of initiative and ultimately vent his anger
in the form of aggression to others.

Since human beings are born into this world he will pass through some period of life until the time he
reached the hole Lahad. Childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and later became a parent, is no more
merely a natural process in a continuous life of the stages of growth that must be passed by a man. Each
period of growth has its own characteristics, each has advantages and disadvantages. Similarly
adolescence. Adolescence is often regarded as the most vulnerable in the process of this life.
Adolescence often cause anxiety for parents. Adolescence is often a lot of discussion in seminars. Yet,
for the adolescents themselves, this period is the most enjoyable times in his life. Therefore, by knowing
the factors as described above is expected to take the benefits for parents, educators and especially the
youth themselves in behavior and educating the next generation to be better so that acts of violence
either in the form of verbal aggression and physical aggression can be minimized or even eliminated.

Khalil Gibran said that children are like arrows. The question is, have these arrows have the freedom to
drive where he go? Or for the sake of prestige, or whatever other arrows that will be taken and attached
to the target? Teenagers are a generation of a civilization. Therefore has a strategic role in development
planning and even the direction and development actors themselves. However, the wrong treatment on
both the naughty teens or not by parents and policy makers will actually result in worsening the nation's

The last question is Have we take appropriate steps to guide actions to something more positive?
