Home Care Nationwide New Study Reveals Top Cities for Seniors
Home care services support clients who may need assistance with some daily tasks but
prefer to maintain the independence and comfort of living in their own home. Finding
just the right place for your home during retirement is a personal experience, but there
have been new findings released regarding the best cities that show surprising results.
While warm locales in the West and South often top retirement and elderly care
destination lists, a new survey of the best places for seniors found that many colder-
weather areas actually offer the highest quality of life and best seniors services for the
elderly. The survey was sponsored by Bankers Life and Casualty Company’s Center for a
Secure Retirement, and conducted by researchers at Sperling’s Best Places.
The top-ranked cities chosen aren’t what come to mind when you think about where to
seek out elderly care senior services or spend your golden years, but they scored high in
the criteria most important to the 65-and-up bracket. Using health, economic, and other
quality-of-life measures, the survey named the following 10 metro areas:
1. Minneapolis
2. Boston
3. Pittsburgh
4. Cleveland
5. Denver
6. Milwaukee
7. San Francisco
8. Portland, Ore.
9. Kansas City, Mo.
10. Newark, N.J.
The Bankers Life and Casualty Company Center for a Secure Retirement Best Cities for
Seniors 2011 survey was conducted in May of 2011. The complete report may be viewed

While this list is not an idealistic collection of beach-front communities, it does provide a
little insight into the kinds of places the aging baby boomer generation will be most
comfortable as they enter retirement or begin to seek out elderly care assistance. Many of
these metropolises offer a variety of cultural and entertainment options, support an active
outdoor lifestyle, and are known as friendly, unique, and diverse communities.
No matter where you decide to settle down, what matters most is that you are comfortable
and able to maintain your health and independence, so you can spend your time doing
