The Santa Fe Community College
women’s basketball team (4-0) captured
the Wade Raulerson Honda Classic
Championship Saturday night with an
86-81 victory over Hillsborough
Community College.

“It’s fun to be 4-0 right now because this
team has such a willingness to play for
each other,” said Head Coach Chanda
Stebbins. “Every time I call a timeout,
the players execute whatever I draw up
for them.”

This is the Saints third consecutive
victory decided by five points or less.

Sophomore guard Rose Abreu
(Pembroke Pines, Fla./Western HS)
scored 26 points in the contest including
two blocked shots. Abreu scored the final
field goal of the game to put Santa Fe up
84-81 with 24 seconds remaining.

Chalecia Miles (Naples, Fla/Naples HS)
tallied a double-double for SFCC with
14 points and 19 rebounds.

The Saints trailed 32-31 at the half but
outscored the Lady Hawks 55-49 in the
second half.

HCC led 59-51 with 10:28 remaining in
the game, but the Saints went on a 9-4
run powered by seven points from Rose
Abreu.

Renee Polk (Crestview, Fla/Crestview
HS) scored 10 points for the Saints
tonight including two free-throws with
eight seconds remaining in the game to
ice the victory.
