George Washington Bridge Plaza

Plaza,

GWB Plaza or Bridge Plaza is the section of Fort Lee,

New Jersey, at the western terminus of the George Wash-

ington Bridge.[1] Located north of and parallel to Main

Street, it dissects the northern part of the borough. The

busy area is characterized by a mix of commercial and

residential uses and an architectural variety that in-

cludes parking lots, strip malls, houses, gas stations, mid-

rise office buildings and highrise condominiums. Just to

the east is the beginning of Palisades Interstate Park and

the tower of the bridge.

Roadways

The series of streets overlooks the lower vehicular cut

through the Hudson Palisades where the several major

roads converge for the Hudson River crossing and the

toll plaza. The streets, which are above the cut, are indi-

vidually named for the points of the compass and either

run parallel to or pass over it. The expressway carries

the designations of the New Jersey Turnpike, Interstate

95, U.S. Route 1/9, and U.S. Route 46. The marginal roads

running alongside it are called Bridge Plaza North and

South,

Bridge Plaza South the latter bearing the newer name of

Bruce Reynolds Boulevard. Traveling on separate over-

East,

passes are Route 67, known as Bridge Plaza East and

the section of Center Avenue called Bridge Plaza WestWest.

Farther west, crossing over the expressway, Fletcher Av-

A view of the district looking west enue becomes US Route 9W, which leads to the Palisades

Interstate Parkway.

Transit hub

Bridge Plaza is a busy transit hub, served by several New

Jersey Transit bus lines serving Bergen, Hudson, and Pas-

saic counties and Manhattan. Rockland Coaches travels

to destinations in Bergen, Rockland, and Manhattan.

Guagua (minibus) service is provided by private opera-

tors heading south along the busy Bergenline-Anderson

Avenue corridor and across the bridge. Also the FT 1X

passes through the Bridge Plaza but at Bruce Reynolds

Blvd (Bridge Plz S.) for service between Inwood, Manhat-

tan, NY and the Hackensack Bus Transfer.
