THE MAGNIFICAT MESSENGER
August 2, 2010
• A PRAYER FOR AUGUST
Contributed by Sister Helen Jean Novy, H.M., VP of Mission
Scripture reminds us: Pray always. The saints remind us: Pray simply.
Consider saying a simple prayer habitually throughout the day to recall
God’s intimate presence and to orient all to the compassionate heart of
God. At marker moments—upon rising, first moment going outdoors,
arriving at work or a destination, after accomplishing a major task, after
connecting with a friend, at mid-day, waiting for a traffic light, sitting down
to eat, in the evening—say a phrase like one or another below:
You are deeply present.
Bless those I love.
Accept all I am and guide all I am doing.
Give me your grace and your love.
Be merciful to all on earth.

Summer Camp Success
Nearly 700 girls in grades 1-8 spent part of their summer at Magnificat, attending
camps ranging from soccer to ceramics to Junior Blue Streak. A special thank
you to our student volunteers and all the alumnae who returned this year to teach
five new camps and workshops. See you next year!
Meeting Spike Lee
Magnificat students
and teachers involved
with this year‟s
immersion trip to New
Orleans received a
big surprise when
they ran into film
director Spike Lee. He
was there filming a
fifth anniversary
documentary on how
little has been done
since Hurricane Katrina devastated the area. The cement background is the
rebuilt levee in the historic Ninth Ward, one of the areas hit hardest by the
hurricane. This was the first year the Immersion Program went to New Orleans. A
few years ago, a group of Genesis students also chose a service trip to New
Orleans.

find out “Where in the world is Magnificat?” If you have photos of yourself in
Magnificat attire at interesting locations around the globe, send them to us!
Beginning with the fall issue of the Magnificat Magazine, we‟ll feature some of
