BHP Advisory Committee Meeting
November 10th
Attendees: Dr. Cox, Scott Campbell, Matt Landry, Rob Honts, Craig Wielansky, Steve Carlson,
Joe Reske, Danielle Pfaffenberger, Judy Amis, Sandy Dorman, Morgan Coleman, Lynn Popiel

I. Mitte Update
A. Private foundation in Texas, seeks to give monies to non-profit and educational
programs
B. The BHP presented a proposal on Nov. 7 th consisting of a gift from Mitte for
$1M cash(one time gift) and $375K/year in scholarship. Dean May would then
match the $1M gift with $1M of McCombs money.
C. This would create nearly 60 scholarships/year and an endowment income of
$90K/year.
D. If accepted, the BHP would be named after the Mitte’s
E. Dean May has a counter offer for the Mitte; it will be sent out as soon as it is
known
F. This proposal does not change our focus towards the excellence fund
II. Make A Mark
A. Dean May has announced that once MAM reaches 50K in total giving, he will
match it with 50K of McCombs money
1. right now it stands at 33K collected of 40K pledged
2. Dr. Cox is working to secure a match early for this year’s campaign
that would put it over the 50K level
B. Update from this year’s chair Lynn Popiel
1. she has begun soliciting gifts from merchants for raffle prizes
2. seeking sponsor for kickoff party

III. Vision
A. With the aid of Greg and Rob, Dr. Cox is going to re-write the vision statement
to include more specific mention of goals
B. Members should email Dr. Cox with any ideas on where $ should be directed
IV. Communication Plan
A. HS counselors will be added as a target audience, they will not be solicited for
the find
B. Work with other UT honors programs to promote themselves to HS and students
1. have one honors brochure
2. make information available in all honors offices on all of the programs
V. Analysis of Plan II
A. how do they spend their funds
B. they have more money, we have better mechanisms
C. BHP and HBA are joining together for one major solicitation from companies
and parents
VI. Excellence Fund Committee (Development) Update
A. search for oversight committee has begun
B. if anyone knows of anyone on the potential list, please let Judy Amis or Sandy
Dorman know
C. How big should this committee be? More important than the size is to be sure
that members come from stratified class years
D. Initial Meetings have been set up in San Antonio for Sandy and Dr. Cox
VII. Excellence Fund Update (Scott)
A. currently have near 50% participation and over 30K pledged
B. it is integral that we have 100% participation, regardless of pledge amount
C. pledge forms need to be filled out, they can be email out and then mailed back
D. goal: do we need a higher one? Three different levels need to be reached:
1. 25K pledged to begin paper work
2. 5K cash in hand
3. 100K to be matched by Dean’s funds
E. overall goal to be determined by the programs we envision and a dream budget
compiled by Dr. Cox
VIII. Timeline
A. we must be careful not to solicit before target audiences are reintroduced to the
program
B. fiscal year runs Sept-Aug
IX. Area Events
A. first New York, Austin, Dallas, and Boston events have occurred
B. Houston and San Francisco events are being scheduled
C. Average attendance has been between 10-15
D. The next step is to formalize these events, though we can’t have official chapters
according to Texas Exes
E. Need to get funds for each area “chapter”
F. Events need to be publicized on the web, we need to get our alumni to the
website through message boards, etc.
X. Class Heads
A. Goal is to have these finalized by Dec. 1
B. They will be integral in helping to track down these alumni
C. Please send nominations to Adam

Action Items:
1. Pledges ... please email Scott at sacampbell@momentumsoftware.com with
your pledges for the Excellence Fund. We want 100% participation from our
group on this one. No contribution is too small ... even $1 is okay. Also,
don't forget that many companies will match you donation, so please look
into that.
2. Make a Mark 2002 ... please email lynn at lynnpop@mail.utexas.edu if you
have any contacts for prizes for the raffle or possible donors for the kick
off party.
3. Places for Funds ... email dr. cox at epciii@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu if you
have any additional ideas on where funds can go (as stated in the vision).
4. Excellence Fund Members ... please email Judy Amis at
judy.amis@bus.utexas.edu if you know anyone of the list of potential exc.
fund comm members or if you would be able to attend pitch meeting to these
individuals with dr. cox and judy.
5. Class Heads ... please email adam at adam.ward@bus.utexas.edu if you
have ideas for class heads ... this is really important because we want to
try to find all our alumni over the next two months.
6. Committees ... please email adam if you are not on a committee ... we
will be needing everyone's help over the next year to make this project a
success.
