II. Program Update - Dr. Cox
A. Symposium Wrap-up-event went very well. Nearly 250 participants.
B. Alumni panel for 2004 symposium-Any alumni interested in helping us coordinate next year’s symposium can
email Dr. Cox (eli.cox@bus.utexas.edu) to volunteer. Non AC alumni are encouraged to participate. Possible
topics discussed for next year:
Women in Business (currently an annual program done by the MBAs)
Entrepreneurship
Services Industry
C. McCombs Internal Review of Programs-BHP underwent this evaluation and was challenged in several areas,
but we’re confident that the program will remain in tact with a few modifications.
III. 2003 MAM Campaign-Morgan Buchek
A. Prizes needed!-any alumni with prizes to donate are asked to contact Adam. Typical past prizes have included:
airline miles and hotel stays.
B. EPS Created-The MAM Scholarship is now an Endowed Presidential Scholarship that will provide funds in
perpetuity. It will be recognized at a university ceremony this spring.
C. Challenge: this year’s campaign is being challenged by the professors of the BHP.
IV. Alumni Relations-Boris
A. Area Events
Austin-March 6th
Houston-March 20th
Chicago- March 13th
DC
Dallas-early April
B. Alumni Mentor Program-going very well. Freshman to be paired with outgoing seniors at the end of the
semester.
C. Value to alumni?
-There has not been a lot of response online to the questions posed by Boris. Why do alumni want/need to stay in
touch?
-Proposal: generate a small committee of 3-5 AC members to further examine these issues by email and an
occasional phone call.
-An internal student committee has been formed to help get seniors “locked in” to the program. They have hosted
weekly happy hours, are assisting with the senior matching to the alumni mentor program and with the MAM
campaign.
-to get older alumni involved, we need to have an occasional (semi-annual) event in their city. Example: a
shortened version of the ethics symposium: a road show of sorts. Possibly, luncheons would be popular for the
older crowd. We would need to get an alumnus to sponsor the event at a club or private facility.
Other ideas:
-a yearly calendar of events, similar to MBA programs
-class chair push annually
-a monthly update to each class via email from the class chair
-alumni survey, the last one was conducted in 1999
-video casting symposium via web
-combine more alumni events with student recruiting events like the PMC
-we need to keep reeducating the classes of the 70’s and 80’s about the BHP is now: “you started this way back
and look what it’s become; you were a founder”
V. Admissions and Alumni Recruiting-Crissy and Marcie
