1. Overview of the Program (Dr. Cox)
Freshman Admissions: 170 admitted, yield of 112. $3000 and $1000 scholarships were awarded to top
students based on merit. Prospective Members Conferences (for recruiting) in April were well attended. Events
were held in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.
Budget and Staffing: We are hiring a marketing/communications coordinator to manage web site, publications,
and alumni newsletter. A faculty Associate Director will be hired as possible successor to Dr. Cox upon his
retirement in 3 years.
Emerging Leaders Conference and Public Service Symposium: Twelve universities attended the conference.
Symposium included some of the best speakers yet. We received excellent feed back from participating schools,
current students, and alumni.
Alumni Newsletter: Will be published in sent in June.
Alumni Admissions Interviews: 160 alumni interviewed the 800+ applicants. Suggestions were made to make
the process more information sharing and possible in person interviews.
Alumni/Student Networking: Suggestions were made regarding increased programming with corporate
recruiters, utilizing alumni contacts at companies, and benchmarking competing programs. All of these ideas are
currently in the works and the BHP Steering Committee and HBA are involved in many of these events.
2. Upcoming events
Sophomore Interviews: 108 applicants. Interviews will be conducted in May and June
Summer Junior Intern Network: Events will be held in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and NYC. This is a
networking opportunity for BHP juniors interning in these cities and BHP alumni located in these cities.
Events are held in conjunction with area alumni happy hours. This is a great opportunity for the alumni to
meet the BHP’s best and brightest while also allowing the junior interns’ exposure to alumni in a variety of
industries. Typically, the networking event is in conjunction with an alumni area happy hour in the
months of July or August so watch out for upcoming events in your area.
Promoting Alumni Events to December/May grads: Efforts to promote area events to recent BHP grads
Faculty Speaker Series for Alumni Area Events this fall: We plan to send faculty area events this fall. If
you have professors you would like to hear from, please send suggestions to Shelley.
3. Future plans for Advisory Committee:
Andrew Allemann and Robin Boesch plan to step down as Advisory Committee Co-Chairs. If you are interested in
this position or would like to nominate someone, please contact Dr. Cox.
