In a nutshell
History
The town centre of the district of Unna came into being in 1753
as the rural district of Hamm (district principal town at the time)
during the Prussian administration reform.
In 1901 Hamm withdrew from the district chapter, but wasn’t
renamed as the rural district of Unna until 1930 when the
district administration was moved from Hamm to Unna.
The last reorganisation took place in 1975. The „new“ district of Unna comprised 8 cities
(Bergkamen, Froendenberg/Ruhr, Kamen, Lünen, Schwerte, Selm, Unna, Werne) and 2
communities (Bönen, Holzwickede).
