Travel in Japan for a taste of true Asia. For centuries, Japan has been the

quintessential image of true Asia, a land that once deliberately shut itself off

from the world. The culture has long fascinated people from other countries

and culture. These days Japan still enjoys a steady tourist trade, despite

the disastrous earthquake and tsunami that devastated the land in 2011.

Many countries regularly update their advisories, so be sure to check out

your country’s warnings when you travel in Japan. This will help you figure

out where it is safe to go. The country is slowly recovering but there are still

areas where tourists are forbidden to go due to unstable ground or lingering

low levels of radiation.

However, you can still enjoy classic sights and festivals. Areas like Kyoto

were unaffected by the quake and remain much the same as they have

decades ago. Visit ancient temples, imperial structures and gardens in

Japan’s former capital. Experience the public baths or visit the International

Manga Museum, a must see for fans of Japanese comics and animation.

Whenever you go, you are sure to get a taste of both modern and ancient

culture.

Try to schedule your trip near or on the dates of important festivals. You

simply cannot pass this up when you travel in Japan or around it. The most

famous is the Cherry Blossom Festival (or festivals, there are several

celebrated across Japan) during the months of March and April, when the

trees are in full bloom. There are many tours available for different parts of

Japan so you too can experience the wonder of this beautiful event.

Be sure to take advantage of local transportation when you are exploring

Japan. Local bus routes and trains are famous for being notoriously

crowded but also for being speedy and on time. It is easy to learn their rail

and bus system and it saves the budget-conscious traveler a little extra yen

to spend on something foolish. Domestic flights between major cities in

Japan are also available, but there is nothing like seeing the countryside go

by from your train window seat as you rush on to your next destination.

Indulge in some of the nation’s favorite pastimes once you begin to travel in

Japan. Catch a sumo match, grab a cup of tea at a traditional teahouse,

observe the crazy fashion and enjoy the delicious food the country has to

offer. Japan awaits you!
