Android Application Development – Filling in the

Required Fields

Android is a Java based open source mobile development pulpit with its dedicated

programming environment. However beginners with some knowledge of Java can

also use Eclipse IDE for Android application development. For creating simple

text based applications in Android an Google Android app developer will need

basic knowledge of XML files and know little bit of Java file. You can start with some

basic knowledge and go on to know them in detail as you progress in your project.

First start by adding your project into Eclipse, then go to Android folder, select

Android project and give next. On the nest screen you will be required to fill in some

basic details of your Android app development project like application name,

project name, Min SDK Version, package name, build target and create activity. All

these are very important for effective Android development as they will decide

which keywords you will be able to access and how your project will look when you

first create it. Here are a few things you need to know about all these:

Project Name: Remember this is different from the name you

want to give your application. Give it the name of your project,

a name by which you would recognize it in your SDK.

Build Target: Here mention the API you plan to use in the

project. It is important to think about it properly and wisely or

else there are chances that you will lose your audience. Before

you select a higher API think what your program will use and

see if a lower build will adapt to those functions.

Application Name: This is the name with which your

application will be recognized on Android Market and

everywhere else. Give it the name that you think will best suit

it. If you can’t think of a good name at the moment then you can give it any name

for the time being, and edit it when you find one.

Package Name: Enter your company’s standard package name here. Make sure

you enter it in all small letters as it will facilitate better coding.

Create Activity: Give it an appropriate name and most of your work will be done,

make sure not to name it just “Activity” or else your project will stop functioning,

and then you will have to once again start working on the project from the

beginning.

Min SDK: It is similar to entering the Android version you will be using for

development. It will be then displayed under that category application.

After filling out all the details considering the things as mentioned above you can

then proceed further with your Android application development.
