Clouds

By: Emily Hill

Introduction….

I chose the metaphor clouds.Clouds continuously go

through a process called the “Water Cycle”.During this

process the clouds go through three steps: Evaporation-

when water becomes a gas, Condensation- when the

droplets come together to make a cloud, and Precipitation-

when the water returns to Earth in the form of rain, snow,

sleet, or hail. Also clouds have many different forms.I feel

my life is somewhat like a cloud.I play different roles, such

• Evaporation-I start with

small ideas.

• Condensation- I take the

small ideas and bringing

them together to create

something whole.

• Precipitation- My writing is

turned into the teacher and

brings joy to her like

clouds bring water to

plants.

Storm Clouds

Dark, menacing, heavy, dense

cloud like a mountain or huge

tower, upper parts smooth and

flattened spread out in a dark

plume.

Research paper….

“Storm Cloud”

*Large, time-consuming

paper

*”Rained all the „be‟ verbs

out.

*”Storms of Life” were shown

many times in the essay

*Started out with simple idea

and became complex

*” Through Janie, Hurston

calls attention to the

silencing of woman..” (

Johnson)

Stratus Clouds

Smooth and featureless. Fairly uniform gray

cloud layer, often low enough to block out

tops of low hills or high buildings. Usually

form in stable air.

Out- Of- Class Essay…

“Stratus Cloud”

**Hero**

*Was generally flat, didn‟t

have many high or low

points

*Described a person who is

“stable”

*Did not cause “turbulence”

*Favorite Quote: “Sometimes

heroes only exist in the

deepest parts of your

heart”

In- Class Essay

“The Whole Cycle”

**Soto**

*Shows the “Cycle” of life

*Imagery- took you back

to this past

*”I was holy in almost

every bone..but

boredom made me sin”

*” Breathed in its

sweetness-appeals to

the senses

Cirrus Clouds

Appear as detached clouds in the form of

delicate white bands or patches. These are

indicators of very dry air.

Technical

“Cirrus”

**Punditpolooza**

*Made of “detached” facts

*Compared two opposite

“factors” like the cirrus

clouds can be an indicator

if good or bad weather.

*Made of “ice” (arguments)

whose strength depended

on the depth of the “ice”

Nimbostratus Clouds

From nimbus(rain) and stratus (sheet), these

clouds are the source of a gentle, but

continuous, rain or snow.Dark, gray cloud

blanket that is thick enough to hide the sun

and any other higher clouds.

Other Class Essay

“NimboStratus”

**Native Americans**

*Told of the Native

American‟s “continuous”

pain.

*Their “blanket” of pain

covered up their “sun” of

happiness

*”The tradition and culture of

the Indians has changed,

but their spirit is still alive.”

This shows just because

you can‟t see something

doesn‟t mean it‟s not there

it might just be “hiding”

Cumulus Clouds

Cumulus clouds are puffy. They have flat

bottoms and are low in the sky. Cumulus

clouds usually mean fair weather.

Creative

“Cumulus”

**O Mother of Mine**

*Fluffy-used lots of

descriptions

*Holds a lot of

“moisture”(Emotions)

*”Fair” tone

“flat” based-one central

theme

Evaluative Essay

• Showed the things I felt I needed to work on

in the my research paper.

• I concentrated on what I needed to correct

and why it was wrong in the first place.

• I was able to go back and see what I was

trying to say and then think of a better way I

could have said it

Stratocumulus Clouds

Gray, white or mixture of both, usually with

darker patches. Shaped like rolls, waves or

rounded masses.Form when warm.moist air

mixes with drier, cooler air and the whole

mixture moves beneath warmer lighter air.

Optional # 1

*Indians*

*Speaks of “light” side

and “dark” side mixing.

*Talks about “round

mass”.

*Involved struggle but in

the end something

new was created.

Cirrostratus Clouds

Transparent, whitish clouds with a smooth or

hair-like appearance, partly or totally

covering the sky.

Optional # 2

**Rowlandson**

*Even though her world

was “covered” she

could still see her “sun”

through the

“transparent sky”

*”Signaled changed” in

her life

Cirrocumulus Clouds

Thin, transparent cloud patch made up of

individual cloudlets.Can often have the

appearance of regular dappled or rippled

pattern.

Optional # 3

**Byrd**

*Talked about individual

voyages.

*Individual yet was all

combined into one.

*Could mean “unsettled

weather” is on the way.
