1 Ashkenazi Synagogue

Ashkenazi Synagogue was built in 1902 by Karl Paržik as the mrst
religious object to be constructed in a then-popular pseudo-Moorish
style. It is the third biggest synagogue in Europe. Sarajevo’s only
active synagogue is currently under reconstruction.
Aškenaška sinagoga je izgraíena 1902. godine, po projektu Karla
Paržika, kao prvi vjerski objekt u pseudomaurskom stilu. Treëa je po
veliìini u Evropi. Jedina preostala aktivna sinagoga u gradu trenutno

Bašìaršija is the heart of old Sarajevo. The building started in 1462
and reached its culmination by the middle of 16th century. In the
center of it is Sebilj (from Arabic word depicting a kiosk-like public
fountain) designed by the Czech architect Alexander Vitek.
Bašìaršija je srce starog Sarajeva. Izgradnja je zapoìeta 1462.
godine, a procvat doživljava u 16. stoljeëu. U centru Bašìaršije se

3 Cathedral of Jesus’ Sacred Heart
Katedrala Srca Isusova
The seat of the Archbishop of Vrhbosna (Upper Bosnia), Cathedral
of Jesus’ Sacred Heart, was built in a neo-gothic style in 1889. The
tomb of Josip Štadler, Archbishop of Vrhbosna from the turn of the
20th century, is located in the Cathedral.
Katedrala Srca Isusova prvostolna je crkva Vrhbosanske
nadbiskupije, a sagraíena je u neogotiìkom stilu 1889. godine.
Grobnica Josipa Štadlera, vrhbosanskog nadbiskupa sa poìetka 20.

4 City Hall
Vije}nica
City Hall (Vijeënica), a symbol of Sarajevo, is the most beautiful example
of pseudo-Moorish building. Erected in 1896, it was the seat of city
authorities and after World War II it became the National Library. During
1992 shelling, 90 percent of invaluable books and manuscripts were
destroyed. It is currently under reconstruction.
Vijeënica, simbol Sarajeva, najljepši je objekt izgraíen u pseudomaurskom
stilu. Izgraíena je 1896. i bila je sjedište gradske uprave, a nakon Drugog
svjetskog rata u njoj je bila smještena Nacionalna biblioteka. Granatirana
je i spaljena 1992., kada je izgorjelo 90 posto neprocjenjivog kulturnog
blaga. Trenutno se vrši rekonstrukcija.

5 Gazi Husrev Bey’s Mosque
Gazi Husrev-begova d`amija
Gazi Husrev Bey’s Mosque is the most important Islamic house of
worship in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Constructed in 1531, it was left to
the city by Gazi Husrev Bey, the Ottoman ruler of Bosnia. The mosque is
only a part of Gazi Husrev Bey’s substantial bequest to the city.
Gazi Husrev-begova džamija je najznaìajniji islamski vjerski objekt u
BiH. Izgraíena je 1531., a zadužbina je Gazi Husrev-bega, tadašnjeg
osmanskog namjesnika. Džamija je samo dio velike Gazi Husrev-begove
ostavštine.

The Latin Bridge was built in 16th century but acquired world fame for the
infamous Sarajevo Assassination. Precisely from this spot Gavrilo Princip
shot and killed Austro-Hungarian heir to the throne - archduke Franz
Ferdinand and his wife Sophia, which triggered the start of World War I.

7 The Old Orthodox Church

The Old Orthodox Church was built in 16th century. Unique for its
atypical architecture, this church has been safe guarding holy icons
and religious relics for centuries. There are several interesting
legends and folk tales related to its founding.

Tunel spasa
Built under the runway of Sarajevo Airport in 1992, the Tunnel of Hope
was the city’s only connection with the outside world during the four
years of siege. A portion of it remains open today. (For organized tours

DOGA\AJI U JUNU
he beginning of summer brings many interesting events for all gene-
T rations. The young ones will especially enjoy 8th Kid’s Festival (from June
10th – 14th) in which a participation of 40 000 children from the entire B&H
is expected.
Party of the month will take place on June 4 at Dom mladih when 8th edition
of Kiníurijada will take place. This party has only one rule – to put on your
craziest fashion combination and impress everyone on the “anti-fashion
runway”. Kiníurijada will feature performances by DJs Focho and El Mano,
and of the acrobatic group Alternacija from Novi Sad.
The long anticipated opening of Art Cinema Kriterion is expected to take place
on June 10th featuring I Have an Art House Cinema in Sarajevo program. (Its
complete repertoire can be found on page 24.)
We also recommend a concert of heavy punk rock band Ritam Nereda
from Novi Sad (on June 3rd at Cinemas Club), and a performance of the
legendary American hip-hop group Arrested Development (on June 10th at
The Basement.)

Sarajevo has one of the cheapest taxi services in Europe. Several
private taxi companies operate in the city 24 hours a day. For
example, taking a taxi from Sarajevo Airport to the city centre will
