Vietnam is located in the eastern and southern part of the
Indochinese peninsula in Southeast Asia. The South China
Sea is along its entire coast. China is to the north and Laos
and Cambodia are to the west.
Vietnam is mainly hills and densely forested mountains:
40% of its 331,688 square kilometers is mountainous, and
the remaining 40% is hills. Most Vietnamese live on the
remaining 20% of land that is at ground level.
Approximately 25% of Vietnam is farmland
Mount Fansipan is the largest mountain in Vietnam.

location for the imperial city. The citadel

Cu Chi Tunnels
The Cu Chi Tunnels are a huge network of connecting
underground tunnels located northwest of Ho Chi Minh City
(Saigon). The tunnels were used by Viet Cong guerrillas as
hiding spots during the Vietnam War. The tunnels have
become a popular tourist attraction, and visitors are
allowed to crawl around in the safer parts of the tunnel
system.

The official language of Vietnam is
Vietnamese; the second most popular is
English. Though Vietnamese is the official
language there are 107 other subordinate
languages spoken there.

Communist state is the type of government
in Vietnam.
Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of
Vietnam is Nguyen Tan Dung. He became
the prime minister on June 27, 2006. He
also served in the Vietnam War.
The president of Vietnam is Trương Tấn
Sang. Trương Tấn Sang became the
president on 2011 July 25.

Vietnam Wildlife
Vietnam has a variety of animals.
Elephants, Deer, bears, Tigers, Leopards,
monkeys, wolves, and birds are the main
animals that live in Vietnam.
Vietnam War
The Vietnam war began in 1959 because
north Vietnam was communist and the south
Vietnam was democratic. When south
Vietnam tried to stop communism this war
broke out. The war ended in April 30, 1975
when North Vietnam defeated South
Vietnam.

of schools within the years as a response to
the peoples demands for more educational
opportunities were accepted by building

Buddhism
Based on teachings of Buddha (Siddhartha
Gautama). Buddhism currently has about
376 million followers and is listed as the
world's fourth largest religion. It was
founded in Northern India by Siddhartha
Gautama, at about 563 to 460 BC. It has
spread to the far east and is making its way
into North America.
