WEBSTAR ONLINE ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS
• Go to webstar.nova.edu. (“WWW” not required.)
• Click “Enter Secure Area”.

• Enter your User ID number (NSU ID #) and your WebSTAR PIN (Personal Identification
Number) in the PIN field. Click "Login" button.
The screen provides ways to retrieve both your NSU ID and/or PIN if you do not remember
them. Please follow the screen instructions to retrieve those codes.

• Click on “Employee”.

• Click on "Benefits and Deductions".

• Click on "Open Enrollment".

• Click on "Start Open Enrollment".
• If you are enrolling or making changes in a medical, dental or vision plan, click the Health
link.
*If you wish to drop your medical, dental or vision coverage, you must choose the waive
option under each of these coverage types. If you have previously waived medical,
dental or vision coverage and you wish to continue your “waived” status, no action is
required.

Click Medical Plan to enroll in a plan or waive medical benefits.

Enrolling in/waiving Medical coverage:
NOTE: You must waive medical coverage if you do not wish to enroll or you wish to drop your
medical plan. Also, if you were enrolled in a Medical Domestic Partner Plan in the past year
and you wish to drop that coverage, you must waive that plan coverage also (see Page 10).
• In the “My Choice” column, click the button for your benefit election.
NOTE: If you are electing to enroll in Domestic Partner benefits (see Page 10 for more details),
you must choose the “Emp & Dom Part (EE)” option for your own coverage.
Once you have enrolled yourself in that plan, return to the “Benefits Enrollment Group Detail”
screen and click the “Medical Domestic Partner Plan” link.

• Scroll down and click the “Submit Change” or “Add Choice” button at bottom left of screen.
Once you have clicked the “Submit Change“ or ”Add Choice” button at the bottom left of the
screen, you will be returned to the Benefits Enrollment Group Detail screen and your medical
election will be displayed.

• This screen now displays your medical election.
Important Note About Domestic Partner Enrollment
Employees who meet the criteria may cover their Domestic Partners. The employee pays the
“Employee Only” pre-tax premium PLUS an additional post-tax premium for the Domestic
Partner. The employee must enroll in both the Medical Plan and the Medical Domestic
Partner Plan in order to participate.
To learn about Domestic Partner Benefits or to enroll click HELP at the top right of this screen.
The next page displays the options available to enroll a Domestic Partner in your medical plan.

NOTE:
Your plan choice here MUST match the “Emp & Dom Part (EE)” plan type (PPO 80, PPO 70 or
Risk & Reward) that you have elected for your own coverage.

• Click the Dental Plan option to enroll in a plan or waive dental benefits

NOTE: If you wish to drop your vision coverage, you must choose the waive option under vision
coverage.
• Click the Vision Care option to enroll in a plan or waive vision benefits.

• Scroll down and click the “Submit Change” or “Add Choice” button at bottom left of screen
(this button may read “Add Choice” if you did not participate in the vision plan last year).

When you have completed your medical/dental/vision enrollment, you will be returned to the
Open Enrollment Group Detail screen, which displays your new elections.
• Click the “Open Enrollment” link at the bottom of the screen to return to the “Benefit
Enrollment Summary” screen.

Enrolling in/Changing/Ending Flexible Spending plans:
If you are electing Flex Spending for either Dependent Care or Health Care, click the Flex
Spending link.
If you are NOT electing any Flex Spending plans, click the COMPLETE button to submit your
enrollment elections.
NOTE: WebSTAR will allow you to set up your dependents and their coverages only
AFTER you have pressed COMPLETE to save/submit your own elections.

• Click the Flex Spending Plan in which you wish to enroll.
• You can enroll in one or both of the Flex Spending Plans.
NOTE:
Flex Spending deductions are deducted bi-weekly OVER 24 PAY PERIODS; whatever amount
you specify in the deduction amount fields will be deducted TWICE A MONTH.

To enroll in or change the amount of the Flex Spending-Dependent Care plan:
• Enter the desired bi-monthly deduction amount:
Annual Election ÷ 24 = Bi-Monthly Deduction Amount
• Enter the annual deduction limit (cannot exceed $5,000.00)
• Click the “Submit Change” or “Add Choice” button at the bottom left of the screen.
Once you have completed entry on this screen, you will be returned to the “Benefits Enrollment
Group Detail” screen.
You can either enroll in the Flex Spending Health Care plan or click the “Open Enrollment” link
to return to the screen where you will COMPLETE your enrollment.
NOTE: Dependents and their plan enrollments are set up AFTER you CLICK COMPLETE
and enroll in your own benefits enrollment.

To enroll in or change the amount of the Flex Spending-HealthCare plan:
• Enter the bi-monthly deduction amount:
Annual Election ÷ 24 = Bi-Monthly Deduction Amount
• There is a $100,000.00 annual limit on the amount you may deduct for Flex Spending
Health Care. You are not required to enter a limit for this deduction.
• Click the “Submit Change” or “Add Choice” button at the bottom left of the screen.
NOTE: Dependents and their plan enrollments are set up AFTER you CLICK COMPLETE
and enroll in your own benefits enrollment.
Upon completion of your Flex Spending enrollments, click the “Open Enrollment” link at the
bottom of the page to return to the “Benefits Enrollment Summary” screen.

• If you wish to discontinue your flexible spending dependent deduction, enter 0 (zero)
in BOTH the Bi-Weekly Deduction and Employee Limit fields.
• If you wish to discontinue your flexible spending healthcare deduction, enter 0 (zero)
in the Bi-Weekly Deduction field.
Your March 31, 2006 paycheck will be the final pay from which your ended Flexible
Spending plan(s) are deducted if you elect to end either or both of these deductions.

Saving your benefit coverage elections:
At this point, if you wish to cancel all of your choices and start over, click “Restart” otherwise
click “COMPLETE”
If you wish to cancel all of your benefit elections and start over, click “Restart”.
You must click “COMPLETE” in order for your elections to be saved and submitted to
ensure you will have benefits coverage.

To create dependent records and enroll them in your benefits:
• You will need the following information on each dependent you are covering:
Social Security Number
Birthdate
• Click the [Dependents] link at the bottom of the Benefits Enrollment Summary screen.

• Enter all required fields. Changes to existing dependent records can also be made by
clicking the dependent’s name link under “Dependent Information”.
Note: Dependents between the ages of 19 and 25 are eligible for coverage if they are currently
attending college.
• Click “Submit Changes” button.

• Click “Add a New Person” link and complete the “Updating Dependent Information” screen
for each dependent you will be covering under your benefits.
Note: As you add each dependent, they will be listed under “Benefit Coverage” showing No
Coverage. You will assign their coverage in the next step.

To assign your dependents to benefits:
• Click the dependent’s name link under the “Benefit Coverage” heading.
All of the benefits you are enrolled in will display as enrollment options for your dependents.

For each dependent you are enrolling in benefits:
• Enter the Begin Date :04/01/2006 (must be entered in mm/dd/yyyy format)
• Leave the End Date field BLANK. If you enter an end date, your dependent will not be
covered!
• If the dependent is covered by another health plan, change the “Other Coverage” field to
“Other Coverage Exists” or leave as “No Other Coverage”.
• Click the “Choose Benefit” box.
• Repeat these steps for each benefit plan into which you are enrolling your dependent.
• Click the “Choose or Update” button to save and submit this entry for that dependent.
• Repeat these steps for each dependent you are covering.

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
Assign dependents ONLY to the benefit plans in which you have NOT
enrolled in “Employee Only” coverage. For example, if Jane Newperson
elects Risk/Reward Employee Only, no dependents should be enrolled in
that plan.
See next page for instructions on how to drop dependents from coverage in
your plan(s).

How to Drop a Dependent from Coverage(s):
NOTE: If applicable, after dropping dependents from your coverage, you may need to change
your coverage from Employee & Children or Employee & Family to Employee & Spouse or
Employee Only. Be sure your dependent coverage elections coincide with the coverage types
you’ve selected.
To drop any dependent from your benefits:
• Select the dependent’s name link under “Benefit Coverage”.

• In the “End Date” field on the deduction you wish to end, type 03/31/2006 and click the
“Choose Benefit” box for that benefit (must be entered in mm/dd/yyyy format).
• Click the “Choose or Update” box in the lower left-hand corner.
NOTE: Even though you have cancelled coverage for a dependent, Banner will still display
your dependent as covered in the dropped plan(s). Banner displays your dependent elections
as of the day you are viewing them in WebStar. Effective 4/1/2006, the dependent(s) you have
dropped will no longer be covered in the applicable plans.

After creating/enrolling/dropping your dependents from the applicable benefits, click EXIT in the
upper right-hand corner of the screen.
Congratulations, you have completed your benefits enrollment!
If you return to the “Benefits Enrollment Summary” screen DO NOT click the “Reopen Open
Enrollment” button. This will UNDO all of your enrollments and you will not be covered for
any benefits.
Only return to the “Benefits Enrollment Summary” screen if you wish to change your elections.
If you make changes, you MUST click the “COMPLETE” button again to save your
changes. You will also need to enroll your dependents in any applicable new benefits you
elect.
