WebCT:
Web Course Tools (WebCT) is an online medium that facilitates the learning process in
an environment that is accessible and on demand. This environment is available twenty-
four (24) hours daily. It may be used as the full medium by which a course is taught or it
may be used to supplement a class taught mostly face-to-face.
WebCT is a combined set of tools for developing and delivering interactive courses and
its components over the Web. It allows for the distribution of static content (e.g., syllabi,
schedules, announcements, and lecture notes), and also provides access to interactive
tools (e.g., discussions, whiteboard, live chat, and online assessments).
The WebCT platform was originally created by professors at the University of British
Columbia in Canada. It allows instructors to design online courses, create their own
websites, hold interactive and bulletin-board-type discussions and administer exams in an
online environment. To put this information online the faculty or designer will enter the
material into pre-prepared forms that will allow the virtual classroom to take shape.
There are certain requirements to use WebCT:
• You must have a means of connecting to the Internet.
• Your computer must meet certain minimum requirements.
• You also need a web browser that is compatible and properly configured.

Important NSU Policies
Attendance
100% attendance is expected. It is your responsibility to contact your professors to notify
them if you are going to miss a class. Faculty will advise on penalties for absenteeism
and/or tardiness.
Incompletes
Incompletes are only an option when a student is unable to complete a course because of
LAST MINUTE extenuating circumstances. Incompletes are considered only by request
and at the instructors’ discretion. Work outstanding must be complete within 16 weeks
or less as the instructor requires.
Faculty
The faculty at NSU-Tampa is here to assist you as you complete your degree. They will
provide you with syllabus; discuss grading procedures and attendance policy at the first
class meeting. They will also provide you with contact information and office hours
outside of class. It is their responsibility to return assignments in a timely fashion and
provide adequate feedback on student’s progress. If concerns arise, please contact your
APM for guidance.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is not accepted at NSU and is grounds for an immediate “F” in the class and
dismissal from the University. At NSU, it is plagiarism to represent another person’s
work, words, or ideas as one’s own without the use of a center recognized method of
citation.
Children in Class
Due to liability issues, children are never allowed to accompany you to class or be in the
building unsupervised. Their presence is a distraction to you and your fellow students so
please be considerate and arrange to have appropriate care for them while you’re in class.
Graduation
Once you complete all of your courses specified on your curriculum sheet you become a
candidate for graduation. You must meet the specific GPA, testing and other necessary
requirements in order to receive your degree. Once you are eligible, you must submit
your graduation application and processing fee. If you choose, you can participate in
graduation at the commencement ceremonies in Ft. Lauderdale. However, participation
is not necessary to receive your degree.

Tutoring Services
The Office of Academic Services in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences provides
tutorial services to undergraduate NSU students on the main campus, at the Student
Educational Centers, and online. Academic Services provides a supportive, friendly, and
comfortable atmosphere for interactive sessions in which tutors and students work
collaboratively on improving students’ writing and math skills.
Tutoring is offered in individual 45-minute sessions. Students can arrange an onsite
tutoring session in math or writing by calling the Tampa site.
Students who live outside of the travel distance to the center, can schedule an online
appointment. All online tutoring is conducted live by main campus tutors. The visual
connection for the tutoring session is established through a shared computer screen,
allowing the student and the tutor to interact simultaneously. The audio connection can be
established through a phone or a headset.
To schedule an online appointment, students need to call the Main Campus office, and
specify that they need an ONLINE appointment. Detailed instructions on how to prepare
for the appointment will be provided. Students should have their N number and course
number available when requesting an appointment.

New and Readmitted Students
New and readmitted students must be accepted into the university as a degree-seeking student to
receive any financial aid. Check with the specific program office to assure that you have been
officially accepted into your specific educational program. In order to be disbursed financial aid,
students must be fully accepted into their program of study.
How do I apply? – Undergraduate Students
In order to apply and be eligible to receive financial aid, you must:
First time applicants: Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA). The preferred method is to apply electronically through FAFSA on the
Web, which saves processing time and reduces the chance of errors due to edit checks
incorporated into the program. You may also apply on a paper FAFSA, which takes
approximately 3-4 weeks for processing and is available by contacting the NSU-Tampa
Office of Student Financial Assistance at 813-393-4992.
Renewal applicants: If you applied for financial aid on the web in 2007-2008, you may
apply through the Renewal FAFSA. The online Renewal FAFSA will reduce the
number of questions you are required to input. If you did not apply online, you may
complete the paper FAFSA or complete the online FAFSA as a first-time online
applicant.
All students (and parents, if dependent) should request a Department of Education Personal
Identification Number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov. With your PIN, you will be able to submit your
FAFSA without having to send a signature page. In the future, the PIN will be used for other
electronic forms and promissory notes that will save processing time for students. Make sure you
include the NSU Federal School Code - 001509.
Changes for the 2008-2009 FAFSA process includes:
• FAFSA on the Web Pre-Application Worksheet The worksheet has been developed for
you to complete prior to filling out the online FAFSA. In the past, the paper FAFSA
was used by students; however, the 2008-2009 paper FAFSA questions will not follow
the same order of questions as the online FAFSA.
• You will have the option to provide your email address on both the paper and online
FAFSA. Some of the benefits include receiving your PIN, Student Aid Report (SAR),
and National Direct Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) financial aid history online.
Dependent or Independent? – Undergraduate students
The Department of Education determines the criteria classifying financial aid applicants as
dependent or independent.
If you answered YES to any item in Step Three on the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal FAFSA, you are considered independent. If you are
independent, do not include information from your parents. In addition, only include the number
in household who you (not your parents) will provide more than half support for from the time
you complete the FAFSA through July 2, 2008. Please be careful in answering this question.

How do I apply? - Graduate Students
Students may begin applying for financial aid on January 1, 2008 of the academic year.
First time applicants: Students must complete the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There are two ways to apply. The preferred
method is to apply electronically through FAFSA on the Web, which saves
processing time and reduces the chance of errors due to edit checks
incorporated into the program. You may also apply on a paper FAFSA, which
takes approximately 3-4 weeks for processing and is available by contacting
the NSU Office of Student Financial Assistance at 800-806-3680. Make sure
you include the NSU Federal School Code – 001509.
Renewal applicants: If you applied for financial aid on the web in 2008-2009,
you may apply through the Renewal FAFSA. The online Renewal FAFSA will
reduce the number of questions you are required to input. If you did not apply
online, you may complete the paper FAFSA or complete the online FAFSA as
a first-time online applicant.
What happens after I apply?
After your completed FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA is received by the processing system, they will
generate a Student Aid Report (SAR), which will be sent or emailed to you. Review the SAR for
accuracy, paying particular attention to income figures. If corrections are required, correct the
items either electronically or on Part 2 of the paper SAR.
After the application has been received, you should:
• Provide Additional Information Required - Once we receive your NSU State Aid
Application (for undergraduate’s students only) and FAFSA information from the
Central Processor, you may be required to provide additional information. One reason may
be the fact that you were selected for verification by the Department of Education based on a
random selection or due to conflicting information. Other supportive documentation may
also be requested based on the situation. All documentation requested should be submitted
immediately to avoid any delays.

• Award Notification - An Award Notice will be sent to students from the Office of Student
Financial Assistance to you via the NSU email address assigned by the university once you
have been awarded.
Federal Regulations Bring About New Financial Aid Processes
• You must accept, reduce, or decline your Federal Stafford Loan(s),
Perkins Loan(s) or Federal Work-Study. Question #26 on The Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) asks you to indicate whether you
are interested in student loans and/or federal work-study (FWS). All students,
undergraduates, graduates and professionals, who do not explicitly answer
“neither” or “federal work-study only” will have the opportunity to accept, reduce
or decline loan(s) offered to them prior to the transmission of these loan(s) to
the lender. Undergraduate students, who on their FAFSA indicate that they are
neither interested in FWS or loans, will receive an award notice with aid other
than federal loans, for instance grants and scholarships, provided they have met
all eligibility requirements and submitted all necessary documents.
• Grants and Scholarships are automatically offered in an “accepted”
status. Undergraduates who are eligible for grants and scholarships, which do
not have to be repaid, will receive an award notice with these types of aid
offered in an accepted status. These funds do not require your acceptance but
will automatically disburse. Grants are usually not available to graduate
students and professionals. Therefore, if you are a graduate student or
professional, and you indicate “neither” on Question #26 on the FAFSA, you will
not receive an award notice.
• You must select a lender for your Federal Stafford Loan(s).
If you chose to accept a loan, you will now be required to complete the Lender
Request Form to select a lender. In order to assist you with your comparison
Shopping, NSU has compiled a referred Lender List. The five lenders on this
list were selected by a campus-wide committee in a competitive evaluation
process through which a total of 15 lenders were compared based on the
services and benefits they would offer to NSU borrowers. Please note that
students are not required to choose a lender from the preferred lender list. The
new loan process permits you to select any lender you wish.
• Click here for more information on the Terms and Conditions of the Award Notice.
If you are aware of any additional funds you will receive during the award year, such as
a scholarship or an employee fee waiver, you must inform the Office of Student
Financial Assistance prior to it being awarded. Financial aid awards are subject to
change in the event that additional assistance received, either from an outside source or
from within the University, exceeds your financial need.
• First-time loan borrowers must complete an Entrance Counseling Interview prior to
receiving any loan funds. You may complete the Entrance Interview online through the
NSU Financial Aid Web site at www.nova.edu/cwis/finaid.
• Register for Classes - You must be registered for classes prior to disbursement of any
financial aid funds. However, you may apply for financial aid prior to registration.
Financial aid is based on the number of credits for which you register. You must enroll
for the minimum number of credits based on the specific financial aid program
eligibility requirements.
• Disbursement of Aid - A refund will be sent to you if your financial aid award exceeds
your University expenses. If your financial aid is not sufficient to cover your University

expenses, you must pay the difference. You may wish to speak with a financial aid
adviser to determine if any additional financial aid is available to assist you in paying
your obligation. If you do not pay your fees within 30 days after classes begin, you will
be charged a $50 late charge. For more information, contact NSU Tampa-Financial Aid
at 813-393-4992.

Payment Plans
Although payment is due in full at the time of registration, certain deferments and payment plans are
available to undergraduate students.
Installment Plans
Certain full-time undergraduates may elect a three-month installment plan to pay tuition expenses. One
third of tuition is paid at registration, one third in 60 days, and one third in 90 days, (for 8 week terms,
payments are due in 30 days and 60 days). Students must provide post-dated checks or credit card
authorizations at the time of registration. A $50 deferment fee is charged for this service and must be paid
at registration. Full-time undergraduate students receiving financial aid may also elect this plan to pay any
remaining tuition balance due NSU. Foreign students may NOT elect to pay with this plan unless they are
attending classes at the main campus.
Employer Tuition Assistance Plans
Undergraduates participating in employer tuition assistance programs who wish to defer tuition payment
may submit a letter of eligibility or purchase order from their employer. They must also provide post-dated
checks or credit card authorizations for the amount of tuition. Payment, of tuition only (not fees), may then
be deferred for five weeks after course completion. A $50 deferment fee is charged for this service and
must be paid at registration along with all other fees.
Any payment plan or a tuition assistance plan elected by a student pertains only to tuition and fee charges
that exceed any financial aid due the student.
Gap Payment Plan (Sallie Mae)
Administered by TuitionPay, the Gap Payment Plan is an affordable, interest-free option that will help
undergraduate students pay any balance due after exhausting all of your financial aid.
Gap payment plan offers a ten-month payment plan, which is available to part-time and full-time degree
seeking undergraduate students who are U.S. residents. Students may pay part or all of their annual charges
in ten equal monthly payments with no interest. Participation is on an annual or semester basis. Gap
payment plan offers the plan with a $100 non-refundable annual application fee. For information on this
plan, call 1-800-806-3680 or visit the TuitionPay website.
Florida Prepaid College Plan
Nova Southeastern University is a private institution of higher learning but does accept and bill Florida
Prepaid College Plan for tuition and fee costs. However, the plans are based on the tuition rates of the tax
assisted Florida Public Colleges and Universities. The difference between Nova Southeastern University
tuition and fee cost and that of the Florida Prepaid College Plan is the sole responsibility of the student. To
learn more about the plan, click Florida Prepaid College Plan.

those groups once they are established.
Q: What does SGA do?
A: SGA has several functions; one of the most important is to maintain a forum for
students to express concerns. Most Senate meetings are open. At the end of each meeting,
there will be an `Open Forum'. At this time, students or the Senator representing their
program can address concerns. SGA also acts as a liaison between the Student Body and
the University. SGA has a tremendous amount of responsibility to the student body. SGA

A: The Tampa SGA maintains a student store to sell NSU Pride Gear clothing for our site
(T-shirts, baby t-shirts, hats, polo shirts, and denim shirts, etc.). More clothing and
accessories are added to the inventory occasionally depending on the success of sales.
SGA is also a part of the Book Exchange Program. You can buy a book or sell a book
through Student Affairs and SGA.

announced). All terms are one year in length commencing in August. Through SGA,
students gain the opportunity to participate in decisions that affect their lives at Nova
Southeastern University.

comes from activities and endeavors beyond the classroom.
