The 2011 Football Pro-Bowl ended in a thrilling 55 - 41 NFC victory. It was thrilling because,

arguably the worse Pro - Bowl football performance in history had finally ended.

How could a game, played by so many Superstars, be so awful? The answer is quite simple

actually, and should be sufficient enough for the football powers to quietly abandon this yearly

farce.

Perhaps the best way to start this analysis is to begin with answering an unbiased question

pertaining to the scenario. Why would an organization, NFL, put their Best Players, representing

hundreds of millions of dollars in investments, in a meaningless situation where they could ruin

their career and with it lose the millions of dollars of investment?

The simple answer is quite obviously they wouldn't.

Being fair to the owners, let's pose the same question to the players. Why would a player take a

chance of injuring himself and ending his career, and the financial wealth that accompanies

playing football, by playing hard nosed, for a meaningless football game? Again, they wouldn't.

We have established the fact neither the owners or the players want to play hard, the risks are too

great. Saying that, how can you have a good football game without hard play? You can't.

Why would an avid football fan like myself be so opposed to watching a football game, even of

questionable quality, as long as you get to see the superstars of the game? Why indeed. Perhaps,

because the game is a slap in the face of these very superstars you mention.

All team sports are timing specific in one way or another, but football takes that skill to the upper

level. If you're a fan at all you've seen a quarterback throw a football, with laser beam accuracy, to

a receiver who hadn't even reached his designated spot and turned around to look for the ball, yet

results in a completion. Do you think that just happens? It requires 100s of hours of running the

routes, releasing the ball with split second timing and pin point accuracy to perfect 1 play between

2 players, receiver and quarterback.

The two opposing Pro Bowl teams have, what amounts to a normal mini camp, which is not used

for skill set drills because of the time restraints, yet they're suppose to perfect the timing schemes

for receivers, blockers, defensive blitzes, I could go on and on. Even if they honestly tried it's an

impossible task.

So we have a game where players are not going to play hard, because the risks are too high for a

meaningless game. The owners do not want the players playing hard, because they don't want to

risk losing their investments through injury in a meaningless game, and should everyone

completely change their attitude and try to put on a magnificent display of football talent, it's

impossible to do so because they can't train in the allotted time.

Should Pro Football change the venue to say... tickets are free and we're not even gonna sell

advertising time for the televised part, just come out and see you're stars put on a display, that

would be great. Nobody would have any expectations of a good football game.

Since I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen, I suggest Pro Football do the

honorable thing and give the Pro-Bowl a decent burial.
