WebCT
Web Course Tools (WebCT) is an online medium that facilitates the learning process in an
environment that is accessible and on demand. This environment is available twenty-four (24)
hours daily. It may be used as the full medium by which a course is taught or it may be used
to supplement a class taught mostly face-to-face.
WebCT is a combined set of tools for developing and delivering interactive courses and its
components over the Web. It allows for the distribution of static content (e.g., syllabi,
schedules, announcements, and lecture notes), and also provides access to interactive tools
(e.g., discussions, whiteboard, live chat, and online assessments).
The WebCT platform was originally created by professors at the University of British Columbia
in Canada. It allows instructors to design online courses, create their own websites, hold
interactive and bulletin-board-type discussions and administer exams in an online
environment. To put this information online the faculty or designer will enter the material into
pre-prepared forms that will allow the virtual classroom to take shape.
9
There are certain requirements to use WebCT:
You must have a means of connecting to the Internet.
Your computer must meet certain minimum requirements.
You also need a web browser that is compatible and properly configured.
If you have any questions regarding WebCT, please contact the Online Computing Help
Desk at help@nova.edu

New and Readmitted Students
New and readmitted students must be accepted into the university as a degree-seeking student to receive
any financial aid. Check with the specific program office to assure that you have been officially accepted into
your specific educational program. In order to be disbursed financial aid, students must be fully accepted into
their program of study.
How do I apply? – Undergraduate Students
In order to apply and be eligible to receive financial aid, you must:
First time applicants: Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The preferred method is to apply electronically through FAFSA on the Web, which saves processing
time and reduces the chance of errors due to edit checks incorporated into the program. You may also
apply on a paper FAFSA, which takes approximately 3-4 weeks for processing and is available by
contacting the NSU-Orlando Office of Student Financial Assistance at (407)264-5604.
Renewal applicants: If you applied for financial aid on the, you may apply through the Renewal FAFSA.
The online Renewal FAFSA will reduce the number of questions you are required to input. If you did not apply
online, you may complete the paper FAFSA or complete the online FAFSA as a first-time online applicant.
All students (and parents, if dependent) should request a Department of Education Personal Identification
Number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov. With your PIN, you will be able to submit your FAFSA without having to
send a signature page. In the future, the PIN will be used for other electronic forms and promissory notes
that will save processing time for students. Make sure you include the NSU Federal School Code - 001509.
Changes for the FAFSA process includes:
A FAFSA on the Web Pre-Application Worksheet. The worksheet has been developed for you to
complete prior to filling out the online FAFSA. In the past, the paper FAFSA was used by students;
however, the paper FAFSA questions will not follow the same order of questions as the online FAFSA.
You will have the option to provide your email address on both the paper and online FAFSA. Some
of the benefits include receiving your PIN, Student Aid Report (SAR), and National Direct Student
Loan Data System (NSLDS) financial aid history online.
For additional information, check Helpful Hints section.
Dependent or Independent? – Undergraduate Students
The Department of Education determines the criteria classifying financial aid applicants as dependent or
independent.
If you answered YES to any item in Step Three on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or
Renewal FAFSA, you are considered independent. If you are independent, do not include information from your
parents. In addition, only include the number in household who you (not your parents) will provide more than half
support for from the time you complete the FAFSA. Please be careful in answering this question.

How do I apply? Graduate Students
Students may begin applying for financial aid on the academic year.
First time applicants:
Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
There are two ways to apply. The preferred method is to apply electronically
through FAFSA on the Web, which saves processing time and reduces the
chance of errors due to edit checks incorporated into the program. You may
also apply on a paper FAFSA, which takes approximately 3-4 weeks for
processing and is available by contacting the NSU Office of Student
Financial Assistance at (800) 806-3680. Make sure you include the NSU
Federal School Code – 001509.
Renewal applicants:
If you applied for financial aid on the web, you may apply through the Renewal FAFSA.
The online Renewal FAFSA will reduce the number of questions you are required to input.
If you did not apply online, you may complete the paper FAFSA or complete the online
FAFSA as a first-time online applicant.

send a signature page. In the future, the PIN will be used for other electronic forms and promissory notes
that will save processing time for students. Make sure you include the NSU Federal School Code - 001509.

financial aid history online.
What happens after I apply?
After your completed FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA is received by the processing system, they will generate a
Student Aid Report (SAR), which will be sent or emailed to you. Review the SAR for accuracy, paying
particular attention to income figures. If corrections are required, correct the items either electronically or
on Part 2 of the paper SAR.

After the application has been received, you should:
Provide Additional Information Required - Once we receive your NSU State Aid Application
(for undergraduates students only) and FAFSA information from the Central Processor, you may be required
to provide additional information. One reason may be the fact that you were selected for verification by the
Department of Education based on a random selection or due to conflicting information. Click Verification
Process for more information on this process. Other supportive documentation may also be requested based
on the situation. All documentation requested should be submitted immediately to avoid any delays.
Request for Lender/Additional Loans - All Undergraduate federal loans will be processed through the
Chase and all graduate loans will be processed through the Nova Loan Program unless otherwise indicated.
To request a lender other than the aforementioned lenders, you may use the NSU Request for Lender/Loan
Funds form.
Important: If you have previously borrowed or choose to borrow from a different lender that does not
participate in the electronic process, you must contact the lender of your choosing to obtain an application, as
soon as possible. Forward the completed application to the Office of Student Financial Assistance for
processing. The Office of Student Financial Assistance will certify the application and forward it to your lender.
Please be advised that this process may take longer than the electronic application process.
If you are interested in an Alternative Loan, you must complete, sign and submit the Request for Lender/Loan
Funds Form to the Office of Student Financial Assistance. You may also access this form on the NSU
Financial Aid Web site at www.nova.edu/cwis/finaid. Follow Up – Do not wait to hear from the Office of Student
Financial Assistance to respond. Check your award status at least one to two months after applying for aid.
Students should call (407) 264-5604 at least three weeks prior to classes beginning if they have not been sent
an Award Notice.
STEP 7: Award Notification - An Award Notice will be sent to students from the Office of Student Financial
Assistance to you via the NSU email address assigned by the university once you have been awarded. The
Award Notification will state the amount of the award, as well as the terms and conditions of the award. If you
wish to change or reduce the award, you may do so on the Award Notice and return it to the Office of Student
Financial Assistance immediately. You may also view your award status on WebSTAR (NSU Student
Information System) by going to "Log in to secure area" using your NSU PIN (not the Department of
Education PIN).
Click here for more information on the Terms and Conditions of the Award Notice. If you are aware of any
additional funds you will receive during the award year, such as a scholarship or an employee fee waiver, you
must inform the Office of Student Financial Assistance prior to it being awarded. Financial aid awards are
subject to change in the event that additional assistance received, either from an outside source or from within
the University, exceeds your financial need.
First-time loan borrowers must complete an Entrance Counseling Interview prior to receiving any loan
funds. You may complete the Entrance Interview online through the NSU Financial Aid Web site at
www.nova.edu/cwis/finaid.
Register for Classes - You must be registered for classes prior to disbursement of any financial aid funds.
However, you may apply for financial aid prior to registration. Financial aid is based on the number of credits
for which you register. You must enroll for the minimum number of credits based on the specific financial aid
program eligibility requirements.
Disbursement of Aid – A refund will be sent to you if your financial aid award exceeds your University
expenses. If your financial aid is not sufficient to cover your University expenses, you must pay the difference.
You may wish to speak with a financial aid adviser to determine if any additional financial aid is available to
assist you in paying your obligation. If you do not pay your fees within 30 days after classes begin, you will be
charged a $50 late charge. For more information, contact NSU-Financial Aid at
(407)264-5604.
To expedite your refund, you should sign up for direct deposit.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
Q: What is Student Government Association (SGA)?
A: Orlando SGA is an independent organization and serves as the governing body to
most clubs and organizations. SGA recognizes all the clubs/organizations and will
provide the budgets for those groups once they are established.
Q: What does SGA do?
A: SGA has several functions. One of the most important is being a forum for students to
express concerns. All Senate meetings are open. During each meeting, there will be an
`Open Forum'. At this time, students or the Senator from their program, can address
concerns pertaining to them. SGA also acts as a liaison between the Student Body and
the University. SGA has tremendous amount of responsibility to the student body.
SGA advocates for student's rights and interests. We do fun things like events, socials,
trips and improvements on campus.
Q: Is every student a member of the Student Government Association?
A: Yes! Every student enrolled at the Orlando site is a member.
22
Q: SGA consists of what governing body?
A: SGA is comprised of an executive board and a senate. These individuals are elected in
a campus election. The executive board is comprised of the SGA President, Vice
President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Chair and Campus Entertainment
Chair. This board is intended to foster communication between students and
administration. The senate is comprised of one or two representatives from each
program or college at this site.
Q: What else does SGA have to offer?
A: The Orlando SGA offers a student store and the NSU Pride Gear clothing for our site
(Tshirts, baby tshirts, hats, polo shirts, and denim shirts). More clothing and accessories
will come depending on the success of sales. SGA is also apart of the Book Exchange
Program. You can buy a book or sell a book through Student Affairs and SGA.
Q: How can you become involved in SGA once the organization is established?
A: SGA has a number of committees that will be open to any student who wishes to
participate. Students can ask their Senate Representative once they are elected about
openings on these committees. Another way to become involved is to run for a position
on either the Executive Board or the Senate. Elections are held for one week (date to be
announced). All terms go for one year in length starting in August. Through SGA,
students get the opportunity to participate in the decisions that affects their lives at
Nova Southeastern University.
Q: Why join the Student Government Association?
A: To give you the opportunity to have an impact on this college campus. You can leave
a legacy by becoming a founding member. This is a great opportunity to meet new
people and is a great resume builder.
