Marketing Survey Project I
To use and understand Marketing Research more thoroughly, you are going to conduct a quick survey of
student data from our school and build an analysis and report.
You should start off with some basic demographics and work from there into something unique* of your
own design. (A sample survey is available in the marketing research project folder on the shared
directory.)
Enter all your data into Microsoft Excel and build some pie and bar graphs to highlight your findings and
copy/paste them into a “report” in Microsoft PowerPoint.
*Ideas could include:
Who drives to school and where do they park?
Who works outside of school and in what industry? (fast food, grocery, restaurant, etc.)
Vegetarians vs. Carnivores?
Who attends school sporting events, and which ones? (football, basketball, wrestling, etc.)
Lunches - Cafeterias (north, south, carts, etc.), bring your own, skip lunch altogether
Internet usage – home/school (what/where/when/why)
Cell phone users - what plans? (Verizon, Cricket, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc.), minute plans, texts a month, etc.
Hence, the project has 5 parts:
1. The idea of what you want to capture (topic ideas above – run the idea past me before you
begin doing it)
2. Survey Design
3. Data Collection
4. Data Analysis (building into graphic visuals in Excel)
5. Compilation of a report in PowerPoint

The smart thing to do is work backwards – what would I want the report to detail? Well, if I wanted to show
what percentage uses cell phones, text volume, and by which provider…that means I should capture…
The Report
You will be creating a report of your findings and presenting these in class. You could present it in
Powerpoint
Your report should contain the following:
What you intended to study/find out and why?
When did you perform your study? Who were your respondents? (demographics)
How did you perform your study? (how, where and when did you find the participants for your
survey)
What did your study look like? (perhaps a couple questions from your survey)
What were your results? (feature your graphs/charts from Excel)
What were your conclusions at the end? (What did you learn compared to what you expected?)
What would you do differently if you were to do this study again?
