Company Background:
For over 35 years, Berkeley Varitronics Systems has provided design and
consulting services for the wireless telecommunications industry. Over the past
15 years, BVS has anticipated the wireless industry's needs by developing over
50 unique and portable field instruments for GSM, TDMA, CDMA and Wi-Fi site
surveys. More recently, Berkeley has introduced a line of WiMAX testing tools
and analysis software to meet the demand for network build out.
Primary Products:
Berkeley's standout products consist of WiMAX, Wi-FI and CDMA testing tools
for drive-studies, laboratory, desktop and field walk-about propagation analysis.
Receiver
WiMAX Pre-Deployment
All Gator transmitters contain Class A amplifiers, thermal overheat / VSWR
protection and weigh under 23 pounds. These transmitters include LCD displays,
keypad / knob control that allows for continuous power output + 0.1dB over a
32dB range. BVS has already sold thousands of Gator transmitters worldwide.
Coyote is a handheld receiver system that houses 2 removable, independent
receivers, removable compact flash card storage, removable GPS receiver and
removable battery system. Coyote’s fast scan rate (2x the recommended 40
lambda averaging speed) and portability make it ideal for both walk-about and
drive-studies. The fully loaded system weighs only 7 pounds.
Forecaster software works in conjunction with Coyote and is ideal for RF
propagation analysis, coverage validation / prediction and base station location
estimation. Site survey data is collected and plotted in graphic or tabular views
and exportable into KML files for applications such as Google Earth.
Handheld WiMAX Analyzers
The newly released YellowFin™ is a tablet PC analyzer for Mobile WiMAX
spectrum analysis as well as packet measurements. Full spectrum analysis
features include power triggers, peak hold / search, multiple waveform traces and
markers. Packet analysis identifies RSSI, Cell ID and Segment data, multipath
and CINR (carrier-to-interference-plus-noise-ratios) all on a preamble basis.
WiMAX Stimulus Transmitters
Tortoise™ is a dual-band, high power stimulus transmitter that contains an
optional WiMAX modulator. Class A amplification, quad cooling fan system and
lightweight (under 20 pounds) ensure that Tortoise will output the cleanest RF
signal from a crane to a rooftop. The optional WiMAX OFDMA Modulator allows
Tortoise to simulate WiMAX base stations and features adjustable step sizes,
channel bandwidth and user settable ID Cell, Segment and frame lengths.
WiMAX Site Survey Software
DragNet™ PC software runs on a YellowFin™ receiver using a tablet PC for on-
the-spot WiMAX site survey analysis. The internal GPS receiver provides geo-
coded data for automatically time-stamped LAT and LON WiMAX measurements
anywhere in the world. Survey data is then over-layed onto maps to provide a
complete overview for coverage studies and network traffic analysis.
Regions of Operation:
BVS is headquartered in Metuchen, NJ but has sales offices in the Northeastern,
Southwestern and Southeastern regions on the United States. Internationally,
Berkeley has a South/Latin American sales office and a European sales and
support offices located in Switzerland. In addition, BVS has wireless product
distributors in over 40 countries spanning 6 continents.
