Shale Gas

Shale gas is natural gas produced from shale (rock layer caprock). Shale gas into the

source of an important and increasing in the United States last ten years. The desire is

to spread to areas shale gas potential in Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. One

analysis estimates that shale gas will supply half of natural gas production in North

America in 2020. Another analysis of shale gas will be rapidly growing in the world as a

source of energy. Baker Institute of Public Policy at Rice University concluded that

increased production of shale gas in the United States and Canada will assist in

preventing Russia and the countries of the Gulf region in the Middle East from high gas

prices that will be exported to European countries.

Obama's Cabinet in the United States believes that the Shale Gas will help reduce

greenhouse gas emissions. Because the properties of rocks usually have an impermeable

shale (not to drain the fluid), mostly shale does not contain natural gas. Shale gas is one

source of natural gas that is not conventional. Another example of sources that are not

conventional natural gas is coalbed methane, tight sandstones, and methane

hydrates. Shale gas has a low permeabillity matrix, the production of gas in commercial

kkwantitas need solving (fractures) to obtain the permeability, which is why Shale gas is

one source of unconventional natural gas.

Shale gas has been booming a few years using modern technology, namely hydraulic

fracturing to create an extensive artificial floating around the production wells (well

bore).Or Directional Drilling Horizontal drilling is often used nutmeg shale gas wells, with

a lateral length of around 10,000 ft (3,000 m) in a layer of shale.

Shale which has economic quantity of gas containing such property;

 Organic-rich · 0.5% to 20%, and normally the case in the source rock that has

been cooked by heat and pressure which is converted into natural gas.

 Having nature brittle and stiff enough to maintain the opening fractions.

 In some areas of shale has a high interval of natural gamma radiation. The higher

the radiation can be corelated with a high content of organic carbon.

Some gas production is maintained with a natural solution, some of which are contained

in the pores of the rock, and some undergo a process of adsorbed into organic matter
