WEB 2.0: A TREMENDOUS CHANGE
Today, the internet is undergoing a tremendous change that will not only alter the way
websites work but also the way people use the internet in their daily lives. We’re facing what
the O’ Reilley Media has termed back in 2003 as web 2.0. The term basically describes a whole
new transition of the World Wide Web, which focuses on integrating creativity, communication,
optimized security, and an expanse of information with web tools, sites, and applications.
Another way to explain the nature of web 2.0 is through the websites themselves. Sites like
these utilize all kinds of media, for example, in order to enhance the personal web experience
and to provide more outlets for expression for people such as sharing of pictures, videos, and
information through blogs, articles, and personal updates.
A lot of people tend to mistake web 2.0 as a marketing jargon since it has a changed (or
improved) the way internet marketers earn their profit online. This may be so, but the term
can also mean a remarkable change or development of the internet, which will continue to
grow and progress as more and more integrated applications continue to sprout from the
minds of people. Some of the best examples of web 2.0 applications include Google Adwords,
Flickr, Facebook, and Wikipedia. What’s the commonality of them all? People play a very big
part in the contribution and development of these sites, and this is what’s turning it into the
biggest social phenomenon that the cyber world has ever experienced.
