Role Purpose:
To manage effectively and efficiently the provision of high quality, cost effective support
services functions to all users of the hospitals.
Hotel and Facilities Manager will be responsible for the organisation and management of the
materials, portering, reception, catering & housekeeping departments and for the provision
and maintenance of all facilities within the hospitals – securing a safe environment for all.
Close liaison with other Senior Managers and with departmental staff in all aspects of the
service is required, with due attention paid, at all times, to maintaining standards and safety
in departments.
To participate in achieving the highest standards of patient care and customer service.
Act as a Health and Safety Officer and be responsible for the development of the health,
safety and environmental framework the hospitals.
Based at Kings Oak or Cavell Hospital, travelling where necessary between the sites. A member of
the Senior Management Team.
Responsible for the following departments:
- Materials Department
- Portering
- Catering
- Reception
- Housekeeping
Core Responsibilities:
To ensure that high standards of practice prevail within the departments ensuring compliance
with relevant standards and external authorities – including, but not limited to, Care
Commission, Health & Safety Executive, Infection Control Regulations & Food Hygiene
Regulations.
To achieve all financial targets.
To provide an efficient support services throughout all areas of the hospital, to include the
ongoing maintenance and development of appropriate standards.
To recruit and retain skilled and motivated staff.
To provide ongoing training and development for staff and carry out a departmental induction
training programme for new staff.
To support and provide where necessary an in-service training programme to achieve the
maximum benefits for the staff and the hospital.
To support appropriate external training courses for staff and to ensure all staff attend all
mandatory training and are familiar with all aspects of health and safety.
To appraise staff annually and to be highly visible and available to them on an ongoing basis.
To ensure adequate staff cover is provided in accordance with the requirements of the
hospital.
To manage all department staff and give professional and/or technical guidance as required.
To liaise with all hospital departments, patients, referring clinicians in order to provide a high
quality service.
To liaise with and monitor performance of facilities support function raising issues and/or
concerns as required with ED or Group Chief Engineer.
To ensure the provision of adequate supplies, adhering to corporately agreed mandatory
purchasing contracts in all areas.
To analyse weekly/monthly departmental reports and KPI information, and undertake any
appropriate action required.
Communicate with the Executive Director on issues of concern and departmental planning.
Identify, write and implement departmental goals and objectives on an on-going basis.
To respond swiftly and effectively to any complaints concerning the service in accordance
with the Company’s Complaints Policy.
Reporting, reviewing and actioning where required, all incidents and accidents through
Sentinel System.
Assistance in planning Capital Replacement programme.
To ensure appropriate provisions are in place for the Hospitals’ Fire Officers - responsible for
Fire Risk Assessments, Training and Drills within the hospital environment.
Chairing/attending the Hospital’s Health & Safety Committees and drive H & S policy
throughout hospital.
Ensure relevant security systems are in place within the hospital 24/7 including appropriate
support for out of hours emergency maintenance.
Ensure all relevant Health & Safety procedures are implemented and adhered to.
Establish, maintain and develop good communication links with all hospital departments.
Carry out any other duties that may be required from time to time, as delegated by the
Executive Director.
Key Accountabilities:
Day to day contact with department staff, other staff in the hospital and service users.
Contact with the Executive Director on an as required basis.
Contact with external contractors as required.
All relevant BMI regional and corporate functional groups
Liaise with corporate purchasing department
Key Performance Indicators:
Setting and achieving budgets and relevant objectives set as part of the regional business
plan.
Objectives of Balanced Scorecard.
Expediting returns on requested information.
Howard Warwick Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire results.
The successful completion of projects within budget and set timeframes – whether carried out
by internal personnel or external contractors.
Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications:
NEBOSH
Managerial and organisational skills.
Awareness of group policies
Knowledge of current legislation re Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, COSHH and risk
assessment.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Minimum of 5 years management experience preferably within a hospital environment.
