Summary

The Securities Exchange Market in India is what sets the retail investor’s
heart throbbing with excitement. The enormous volatility of the market
coupled with the odd investor’s sentiments make this exchange market an
interesting earning field.

Controlled and regulated by the SEBI, this market has 24 exchanges
spread all over India with NSE and BSE being the prime ones. As of
December, 2010, BSE has reached a market cap of Rs 71.26 Trillion while
NSE on the other hand has managed to reach Rs 73 Trillion. The
securities exchange market has remained the most sensitive barometer of
the Indian Economy since 2003 and has remained more stable than the
other world indices, partly due to the stronger policy formulations and
partly due to the investment habits of the Indian stock retail investor.

In the Indian Securities Exchange market there are both specified and
non-specified securities allowing both spot and forwards transactions. In
2010, SEBI has introduced a number of policy formulations in the Primary
and the Secondary Market. The OTCEI has also undergone a number of
policy changes in 2010. The regulatory framework has been revamped
keeping in mind newer surveillance measures. Data Warehousing has
been modernized and implemented across all the exchanges in India.
Overall, the financial and commodities derivative markets promise to
bring a whole lot of liquidity and foreign investor flux in the coming few
years.
