Further Notes:
1. The system was reorganized in 1995 so that the Chancellor of the System was also
President of the University of Houston.
2. Clear-Lake and Victoria are upper-division and graduate institutions, while UH-Downtown
provides lower-division as well. Degrees at the centers are offered through the four
universities.
3. Descriptions of other campuses from their websites:
“UH-Clear Lake is an upper-level and graduate university that serves more than 7,500
students. We offer more than 30 undergraduate and over 40 graduate majors in four schools
including Business and Public Administration, Education, Human Sciences and Humanities,
and Science and Computer Engineering. UHCL is located midway between Houston and
Galveston, Texas and our campus is adjacent to NASA's Johnson Space Center and the
Armand Bayou Nature Center. We invite you to not only browse our web site, but also to visit
our university in person.”
“UH-Downtown has a proud history of providing a high-quality education to a diverse
student population. Since its founding in 1974, UHD has more than doubled the size of its
student population, increased the number of degree programs from one to nearly 40 --
including four graduate programs, renovated and expanded the campus, achieved
accreditation, and received national recognition for its student diversity and outstanding
academic opportunities.”
“The University of Houston-Victoria, founded as an upper-level institution in 1973, is one of
four institutions in the University of Houston System. The primary role of the university is to
provide upper-level and graduate instruction to students within the Coastal Bend region,
including collaborative programs in Fort Bend County. The university shares facilities and
some services with The Victoria College and also works with Bee County College, Wharton
County Junior College and Houston Community College.”
