Chapter 1: System Hardware & Software Installation
1.1 Hardware Installation
1.1.1 Install audio/video capture card to PC
1. Shut down the computer;
2. Uncover the computer cabinet;
3. Plug one or more video capture card into PCI port and fasten the
screw;
4. Cover the computer case;
5. Start up the computer.
Generally, after starting up computer, Windows Operation System will detect
hardware of Multimedia Video Controller automatically, and recommend you
to install driver. Please cancel this dialogue box and follow the wizard of
“driver installation”.
If computer dose not find this new hardware, this is probably caused by
improper installation or damage of the DVR card. Please plug it in again, or
contact your local supplier.

1.1.5 Hardware WatchDog Installation
This surveillance system can supply "Hardware WatchDog" function, with
which the computer will restart when system errors occur. Please follow below
steps for installation:
1. Connect the cable between the Reset pin port of computer mainboard
and DVR card Reset pin port. See the following picture:

2. If the Reset Pin already connected with PC reset Switch, please pull
out and connect the cable between DVR card and mainboard as the
above instruction.
1.1.6 Install DX-485NET, DX-DIOxxx, DX-RELAYxxx
We can also supply other device to make a complete system:
1.1.6.1 DX-485NET
It is the brigde to connect Alarm Capture and Control Output devices with
computer, like DX-DIOxxx and DX-RELAYxxx.
It can also provide the interface from RS485 to RS232.
1.1.6.2 DX-DIOxxx
It is Digital Alarm Input/Output controller. We can provide different types of
controller according to different DVR card models.
1.1.6.3 DX-RELAYxxx
It can provide Relay insulation input/output interface. We can provide different
types of controller according to different DVR card models.

1.2 Installation of Driver
Notice:
If there is other video capture card installed in your computer , please
uninstall and delete them completely in order not to make conflict with each
other.
1) Plug the video capture card into PCI port, and start up the PC and enter
the window OS.
2) After entry to Windows OS, the system will detect the new hardware
automatically.
3) Run the driver CD ->Driver Auto Installation Program
or adopt the manual installation mode to install
capture card driver software.
4) Restart computer after installation is finished.
5) After DVR driver is installed,you can enter the "Device management",
following these steps: Window Start ---Setup---Control Panel ---System---
-Hardware ---Device Manager,check hardware device driver to ensure
whether DVR driver is installed correctly. Please see below picture for
your reference:

Notice:
If the drivers are installed successfully,then you will find “Saa713xPCI
Card WDM Driver” in the Device Manager window, like the above picture
showed.
1.3 Software Installation:
The Installation CD includes the following software:
1. DVR System Software
2. Central Monitoring System (CMS) (Optional)
3. DDNS Server Software (Optional. To be provided later)
4. PDA/Mobile Phone Explorer Software Based on WinCE (Optional. To be
provided later)
Install software according to the following steps:
1. DVR System Software
The DVR System Software shall be installed in the computer which is installed
with DVR card, run the "SDVRSetup.exe" and follow the instruction for
installation.
2. CMS (Central Monitoring System)
This shall be installed on central server with LAN (Intranet) of DVR system,
which has two versions. Standard version can manage four DVR surveillance
system (Max.:64 camera) in simultaneously. Specialized Version can manage
32 DVR surveillance systems (Max. 512 camera). When installing, just run the
driver CD: press the file of "CMSSetup.exe", according to the installation
wizard.

1.4 Uninstall
Run the installation program and choose "Uninstall" option or just enter
"Control Panel" and to uninstall the software by "add or delete software" tool.
Notice:When the system uninstalls the program, it may not automatically
delete files or contents created by user, which need to be deleted manually.

2.2 Description of main interface buttons
1.【Selection of Split Screen】
●Up to 25 channels optional (1, 4, 6, 9, 10, 13, 16, 25 and full screen)

●Full screen
Press “full screen” button, you can hide the preset area under full
screen monitoring mode. Right click the mouse on the screen to return
to original mode.
●Maximize the screen of single channel
Move the cursor to the channel desired and double click to maximize
the display screen.
If you want to maximize display screen of other channel under above
status, please double click left key of the mouse to return to previous
menu first, and then repeat above step.
●Auto tour of split screen.
Press “Setup” button on main menu, enter the page as follows:
Select “Preview-window tour (second)” option, and setup auto switch time
intervals (default time is 15 seconds), the DVR software will automatically
switch to the next split screen when in preset interval time.

Setup Preset Positions

Input preset-position name, click “OK” to confirm. Other presets follow the
same way.
●Transfer preset positions
Click button, it will turn into , shown as follows,

● Setup “Decoder to cruise automatically”, “Auto-Plane scan”
● After setting up the preset positions, click “Auto” button, enter
“Establishment the Decoder to cruise automatically” interface,
shown as follows:

① You need to connect PTZ decoder to support this “Auto-Plane scan”
function.
② Setup auto cruise of preset positions. Click this option, and enter the
interface shown as below:

Click the drop-down menu, select the preset positions desired, and setup the
sojourn time (minimum 3 seconds), click “OK” to confirm.
【Minimize program】
Click to minimize program.
【Exit and Lockup】
Click , and below dialog box will pop up:

Drop down the menu, there are three options selectable “Exit DVR”,
“Relogin”, “Lockup System ”.
● Exit DVR: After selecting this, then select “OK” to exit .
● Lockup System: After selecting this, the system is locked up, see
below picture for your reference:
When system is locked up, user can’t operate.
Relogin: After selecting this, and select ok, user can re-login.

2.3 Setup
Press [Setup] button on main interface to enter system parameter
configuration page.

2.3.1 Storage Manage
① After opening the system configuration, you will enter into storage manage
dialog as default.
② Select “Storage manage”
The “Enable” column marked with “Y” means this disk is recordable;

otherwise this disk is not recordable.
③ Select record file length of time
Setup in this box, min 5 minute, max 90 minute.
④ Select clearing disk strategy
You can select four modes “Time priority”, “Type priority”, “Ton-
clearing”, “alarm when disk-space null?”

2.3.2 User Manage
①Click “User Manage” to enter into user manage dialog box.

● Image size: You can set “QCIF”, “CIF”, “2CIF” or “D1”.
【4. Alarm recorder setting】
● Image quality: You can set “Highest”, “High”, “Normal”, “Low”,
“Lowest”,and default is “Low”.
● Record frame rate: 1-30 FPS adjustable, and default is “1FPS”.
● Record sound: Setup this option to record with or without sound.
● Alarm record duration time: Longest time is 90 seconds, and
default time is 30 seconds.

2.3.5 User-defined windows mode
During application, display window disproportion may occur due to irregular
number of cameras used (display windows do not follow the 4:3 proportion),
leaving empty space in some area and resulting in inaesthetic display
interface. You can setup size of display windows of each camera to avoid
above mentioned problem.

Each small window in current page can move and zoom freely; user can reset
location and size of the display window of each camera, please refer to below
picture:

Click 【 Save 】 button to save the user defined segmentation of display
windows, For example, enter main interface, click windows segmentation
button , select user defined segmentation file 【5 Windows 】, DVR
software will display according to user defined segmentation display mode.

2.3.6 Motion Detection and Image setup

2.3.7 Net parameter manage
① Click “Net parameter manage” to enter into net manage dialog box.

User can modify “Web server port” (default is 80) in this dialog box, “Data
sending port” (default is 8001) , and “Open web server” time.
【Notice:】 If you want to accesses to WAN, you will have to map “Web
server port” and “Data sending port” from DVR’s LAN network router to
DVR’s LAN IP .
③ Limit DVR Net- Bit rate
User can limit client numbers here (Max 32 clients), and can limit the
bandwidth of LAN access and WAN access as well.
④ IP address filtration
1. Click【Add】button, setup IP range.
2. Select “Exclude IP-Address in list” or “Exclude IP-Address out of list”
3. Select “Enable Firewall” to enable the IP address filtration function.

2.3.8 System manage
① Click to enter into system manage dialog box.
② DVR parameter setup

Auto run with windows start-up: Automatically run the software when
computer is started up.
Enable Windows OS: This function controls whether user is allowed to re-
enter Windows OS after entering into the DVR software (default is disabled), if
user shut down DVR software under disabled state, computer will reboot.
Auto Reboot Windows: User can setup specific time to reboot windows.
Preview-window tour: System tours windows at preset interval.
Make Water-Mark for record file: Using this function is to prevent rewriting
on recorded files.
Show SnapShot picture on preview-window: After snapshot, it can auto
capture picture displaying on the right down corner of preview-window.
③ Windows Setting
Set system time: User can set system time.

Set IP Address: User can set IP address.
2.3.9 Log Manager
① Click , enter log manager dialog box.
② According to demand of user, it can query “System Log”, “Operating Log”,
“Login Log”, “Alarm Log”.

① Click , enter alert linkage manage dialog box.

User can setup alert linkage based on “Step 1”, “Step 2”, “Step 3”, “Step 4”.
Step 3: choose alert action:
·After click “Record”, can setup linkage options as below,
User can choose which device to linkage record.
·After click “Snapshot”, can setup linkage options as below,
User can choose “Snapshot one picture” or “Snapshot picture nur”. Maximum
“Snapshot picture nur” is 30 pictures.
·Click “Wave file”, can setup linkage options.

● Red means “Motion Detection Record”

【Bright】This function can adjust image brightness.
【Contrast】This function can adjust image color contrast.
【Sharp】This function can adjust image sharpness
【Mirror】This function can overturn image
【Rotate】This function can rotate image at 90 , 180, 270 degree.

Click right-button of your mouse frame the area that you want to zoom in,

Press button, it will display backup dialog box.
After you choose channel and date/time, click “Search”, shown as follows:
Use mouse to choose the file you want to convert, click to add it to

Click “Start Convert” button, you can start converting the files after you
choose the path to save the files.
②【Print】
Press button, system will search your default printer and print the current
screen.

1) Memory: 256MB or above (for 16 channels DVR card or above, memory of
512MB or above is recommended)
2) Display card: 64MB or above
3) CPU: Intel Celeron D 2.4/2.8GHz; for over 16 channels, Intel P4 2.4 GHz.
3.1.2 Software requirements:
1) Windows 2000/Windows XP (NTFS is recommended, WIN98/97/95 do not
support our system files)

3) Most updated display card driver program
Notice: Please install mainboard driver program prior to that of display card
driver, otherwise display card and DVR may not work properly.

Appendix Two Internet Monitoring
Please follow below three steps to monitor through the Internet:
1 Solution to dynamic IP address (If your IP address is static, you can pass this
step)
You will be assigned a temporary IP address when using the ADSL to access
to the Internet, and this IP address is not static, and thus may bring you a little
trouble monitoring via the Internet. To solve this problem, you may apply for a
dynamic domain name and download client software to run it.
Notice: The port you mapped in Router must be the same with “Net parameter
manage” in the DVR software. Port: 80 (TCP), 8001 (UDP) as follows:

First you need to enable ActiveX manually, please refer to below picture:
Open IE explorer, Setup [Tool]-[Internet Properties], select [Security], details
as shown below:

Input DVR Server’s IP address or dynamic domain name in the IE address bar,
Click Enter (If you computer is in the LAN, You can input LAN IP address in
the IE address bar directly), it will auto come out a dialog as follows:
Click “Yes”; system will download a plug-in automatically, after that a Login
dialog box will pop up:
After input Username and Password, click “OK”, then you will enter into IE
client interface, and the camera number will be displayed on the right side of
the client interface, shown as follows,

Notice:
1. Data usage will lower if record frame rate is lowered. If record frame rate is
12 frame /s, data usage will fall down half. Audio is constantly remained at

2. All above disk space usage calculation are test results by lab, and it is for
reference only. Record data usage may change according to actual
camera quality and movement of object recorded.

Appendix Four FAQ
Question: When I plug in DVR card and boot, but I can’t enter Windows
system, what is the reason ?
Answer: It may be caused by below reasons: 1. DVR card is damaged; 2.
DVR card is not compatible with your PC mainboard, you may try another
DVR card to test, it remain the same state, then you can confirm that DVR

Question: After booting, run DVR software, but system died?
Answer: It may be caused by below reasons: 1. DVR card is damaged; 2.
DVR card is not compatible with mainboard; 3. DVR card isn’t compatible with
mainboard and the Windows XP OS, solution is as below:
First, change another Ether DVR card to test, if the problem remains, then you
can confirmed that the DVR card isn’t damaged, then uninstall Windows XP
system, replace with Windows 2000 system, if the problem remains, you can
confirm that DVR card is not compatible with mainboard. If problem is solved
by changing system, it means that DVR card driver is old, please contact with
your local dealer, and update a new version driver program.
Question: DVR system can run and display graphic, but move slowly, and
mouse’s moving slowly too, why?
Answer: Your CPU does not comply with minimum requirements, solution is
as below:
1. Lower record frame rate.
2. Change better CPU as recommended.
Question: After DVR software is opened, gray screen appeared, but
recording is normal?
Answer: This is caused by display card problem, change other display card.

the computer. If firewall was installed in your PC, set you can set the IP
